I have tariffed the penguins that are on Heard Island and which you were probably assuming did not export goods forgive me they were taking advantage of us so cunning and so cold

Absolutely absurd to see someone go "oh yeah I figured out I'm autistic after a crew member helpfully mentioned it and then I got diagnosed and they were right" and decided that ACTUALLY ITS A TERRIBLE THING THAT THAT HAPPENED

Amongst all the current horrors of the world I am finding great comfort in my local towns’ information page - mostly sharing vital warnings about a duck sitting in a puddle in a road

Today, 1338 years ago, St Cuthbert died. Here's a poem featuring him stood on the shore of Inner Farne a few days before he died.

Really enjoyed the very loud aggressive man in Boots being apprehended by security for stealing perfume shouting “don’t do this on a Sunday, it’s the lords day!!”

Bring back art deco trains. I had to take an Amtrak across country and was devastated to find it a glorified bus. No richly upholstered interiors, no first-class dining cars. I did not solve a single murder. How far we have fallen.

For World Book Day, here is a clay tablet from ancient Uruk. It’s over 5,000 years old and preserves some of the earliest examples of writing. The signs represent numbers and various products tallied up for a festival of the evening star, the goddess Inana (associated with Venus) #WorldBookDay

Since it is #StDavidsDay tomorrow as well as #BookWormSat, we must celebrate literature from or about Wales. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Do join us with a daffodil. ‘To live in Wales is to be conscious At dusk of the spilled blood That went into the making of the wild sky…’ ~ R S Thomas.

One of the most common arguments you hear from fans of generative ‘AI’ is that it’s not plagiarizing people’s work, it’s just learning like a human learns. So I’m going to break down why that’s just not true, and why it can never be true, with the existing systems. 1/

A story in two parts. Me: I just found this stuff in a drawer in the kitchen. It's really good. My wife: [Long pause] Aaah. That's what we used on the cats ears last summer to stop them getting sunburnt. 🤢🤢🤢

The first thing I thought was "It's Kit from Darklord of Derkholm!"

“I went around the corner to see if spring was there.” “Did you find it?” asked Toad. “No,” said Frog. “There was only an old worm asleep on a tree stump.”

Quote of the day: Tonight my daughter informed me that Duo, the Duolingo mascot, is dead. It's a whole thing, apparently. "How did they die?" I asked. She replied, "I dunno. Slayed too hard?"

I love audio drama, and I'm really sad to see the BBC making cuts in this growing industry. #SADattheBBC @writersguildgb.bsky.social

Finally meeting your long distance friend's cat is like meeting a celebrity.

Did Anne of Green Gables write this?

This is delightful #TheTraitors

Too-ticky went inside and put a kettle of water on the stove. "It's always like this in their adventures. To save and be saved. I wish somebody would write a story sometime about the people who warm up the heroes afterwards." -- Tove Jansson, Moominland Midwinter

For Maths fans, 2025 is a square. 45² = 45 x 45 = 2025 Also, 9² x 5² = 2025 40² + 20² + 5² = 2025 My favourite? 1³+2³+3³+4³+5³+6³+7³+8³+9³ = 2025 #Mathematics #teaching #education

The old year is dying. The new world struggles to be born. Now is the time for silly hats.

“Now night passes and New Year draws near, drawing off darkness as our Deity decrees. But wild-looking weather was about in the world: clouds decanted their cold rain earthwards; the nithering north needled man’s very nature…” Sir Gawain & the Green Knight, late 14th-century, trans. Simon Armitage

(from T. S. Eliot’s ‘Little Gidding’) “Last season’s fruit is eaten And the fullfed beast shall kick the empty pail. For last year’s words belong to last year's language And next year’s words await another voice.”

all my plans for the rest of the year

Happy Boxing Day to all cats who celebrate! 📦🐈‍⬛

Merry Christmas to all those celebrating. Happy Wednesday to all those who are not. And I hope this day passes bearably and swiftly for anyone struggling today. Dragon with Christmas Gift, Edward Gorey.

just scrolled through my phone to find the train ticket and showed the man this image instead with full confidence that THIS was my train ticket.
