Putnam also tends to ignore how men have historically relied on women to build community for them, and how we've left women stretched so thin (by telling them to compete with men at work without telling men to step up at home) that women can't be the community builders for their families anymore.

I just don’t think we have good evidence on which way it will break. If people hear election integrity is threatened do they give up or do they defend democracy more vigorously?
