The software and game industries thrive off of this. It's why I always advocate that people purchase physical versions of their favorite books, movies, etc. Because you don't own digital goods. Straight up.

The problem is that digital law in the US supports what Amazon is doing. When it comes to digital products, you don't own what you buy, you're just purchasing a license to use said product until the provider doesn't support it anymore.
