Instagram just tried to sell me a scan to tell me what 'season' I am and what colours I should wear. Truly we are back in the early nineties. Secret style tip (you too can emulate my effortless cool) - wear whatever you fucking want. If you like it wear it. Neon yellow fishnets? Get in.

Dropped into @fiveleavesbooks.bsky.social today and left with some pretty cool loot.

Is it just me or does anyone else sometimes find libraries and book shops really over whelming? All those books I'll never read. All those authors. All those words and ideas and knowledge. It's amazing but also, some days, a bit much.

Our first trip to the vet with the cats today (not their first trip, or ours but first together) and Lily tried to climb into the vet's cabinet while she was busy with Molly. Lily also returned to the cat box twice and had to be extracted. Molly was a delight.

Teaching this course is a delight. Looking forward to a new group of writers thrilling me with their twisted minds and clever characters. If you’re working on a crime novel or thriller this is an ideal opportunity to take it to the next level.

Me: I'll pop to the library as none of my books are quite right today. My sister: going down a hole in the ground to look at old mine shafts for fun. Me: I think I'll play with plants and words for money. My sister: I'll scream around under blue lights too save lives and they'll pay me.

I used to work here! Looking lovely (if slightly eerie) in the mist.

Looks around at world. Gestures feebly. I guess I should go play with my words and my paper doll characters while the world burns?

don’t tell HAL, but ⬇️

One side of this "memento mori" features a human face crawling with worms and insects; the other side shows a skull - the flesh eaten away. Date unknown. This unusual object is from the Wellcome Collection in London.

Love this thread about the magic of learning ❤️

One of my favourite things in my whole flat is this tiny little set of folk horror farming implements that feels like something from a lost episode of Bagpuss where the peasants revolt & depose the Bony King of Nowhere

Everyone should edit with a cat curled up to them. Frequent furry tummy rubs make the whole process much more pleasant.

More of the approach that's never worked once in political history: screaming "we're racist!" at the far right in the vain hope that people *who despise you* will switch from more racist parties, without your horrified base switching to less racist ones. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Discworld QOTD, from Going Postal

Me walking into boots this morning - oh while I'm here I'll pick up some nytol. Me two seconds later - so what the f* else am I here for?

Great prize here for writers who are also carers. Please share :)

Word of the day is ‘arsle’ (19th century): to have a distinct sense of going backwards.

Wearing a deeply unflattering tye dye velvet skirt and a badly faded cthulhu-cat tee and feeling very much like myself. Memo to self - the place where 'comfy' and 'slightly weird' overlap is the best place.

A little something I've been thinking about four days after the release of my latest book...

Writer Beware has gotten complaints that Word Alliance Literary Agency (not really a lit agency) is contacting writers to offer editing jobs. The "jobs" are already-published books, w/ pmt on completion; scam then asks for writer's bank account info. Discussion here: www.reddit.com/r/writing/co...

What with the multiple impending apocalypses (apocalypsi?) I'm thinking this was a bad time for a diet.
