As someone whose life was changed by a Fulbright to New Zealand, this is truly heartbreaking news.

Sky pilots! Candace Galen’s work published in Evolution in the late 1980’s on these lovely alpine plants is legendary. Well worth a look all these many years later.

I wish David were around to read your paper. He would have enjoyed it so much. And I bet Dan will be thrilled — be sure he sees it!

These papers are beyond ‘landmark’, if that is possible. Great choice of authors to highlight this work. Love it!

These remind me of the pork chops from the Venice episode of Somebody please feed Phil. One big difference: they added vinegar at the end of the frying which really makes them shine.

This species, Chilopsis linearis, is a trigger for me as I once spent all day every day for 2 months pollinating every flower on several smallish trees just to have the farmer let cows in the area. They ate every flower/fruit they could find. Chalk one up for a failed field experiment, one of many.

“These changes…giving Braun sole appointing power over IU’s board of trustees, subjecting tenured faculty to "productivity" quotas that could lead to termination, dissolving the decision-making power of faculty governance organizations ― were never the subject of a filed bill…”

Such a great species, one that Richard Niesenbaum showed had pretty extreme pollen competition for that ONE ovule in each pistillate flower.
