"The development of civilisation and of industry in general has always shown itself so active in the destruction of forests that everything that has been done for their conservation and production is completely insignificant in comparison." Marx, Das Kapital, Volume 2 (1885)

can we just make a new internet that doesn't suck and not let the big tech bozos in? Just start over with Geocities style sites or something

Using gen AI to plan to blow yourself up in a cyber truck outside a Trump hotel in hopes that it will spark a groyper uprising. This is politics now.

The thing that the oligarchs fundamentally misunderstand is that civil society and social safety nets were the compromise of the social contract. Dismantling civil society, rolling back civil rights, looting public resources, and exacerbating unimaginable wealth inequality fundamentally breaks it.

Fascists use absurdity as a shield and a cudgel for a reason. It allows them to trial ballon the most dangerous ideas while also mainstreaming them and neutering response and pushback as it becomes hyper normalized by broken and subservient media systems as well as a pro fascist propaganda outlets.

More 2019/2020. There's a certain contained abstract aggression in my older work that I almost disowned in 2021, but to be honest I still find it therapeutic.

Visionary American artist Eugene Von Bruenchenhein He saw himself as a great artist, but was unsuccessful in selling his work or gaining any recognition. By his own account, he completed 1,080 paintings. When he died, his small house was crammed from floor to ceiling with them. Untitled, 1958

lately i make art to see how i am not a person, how i am but patterns. i am surprised by what i make. art is nothing other than combinatorics turned divinatory

I really do believe AI is inherently fascist. Both the resources it takes to generate and the soullessness of its output render it entirely irredeemable, but it also hollows out any meaning we can get from communication and art and reduces human life to an aesthetic it wears like a skinsuit.

I swear I haven't been tripping, but has anyone tried to write a history of a forest from the perspective of the trees? I.e. using environmental monitoring, dendrochronology, DNA tests to establish kinship lines among individual specimens to write the history of a place from a non-human perspective?

The Rutt/Etra GLSL shader I coded earlier is oddly hypnotic.

I often feel like Bill Clinton cementing Ronald Reagan's agenda really did seal Fukuyama's end of history. Except instead of some imagined western liberal utopia it's the uni-party consensus on brutalizing the poor and funneling money to the "productive" class under a sham democracy.

A reminder that many period tracking apps (not all but many) are created by forced-birth, anti-abortion evangelical organizations.
