Not in the Scholes, Robson, Keane League, but a superb player

The surprising thing is not that it lasted 41 years , the surprising thing is it didn’t happen the last few years. I guess only because we’re not usually winning at half time !

Surprised the commentator didn’t say “it takes some shot to beat Shilton from that distance” because they all used to talk like he was still good even though he had been obviously shit for years !!

Good job social media wasn’t around then. Some of that squad would have had a tough time!(Davenport, Turner, the Gibsons, even Stapleton in his last year)

Did we really play that formation? I remember solskjaer and even Cole on the wing in 4-4-2s but no memory of Eric playing behind two strikers

Too many, but to give a random example, Maldini

Unbelievable player. Although he was lucky to win that award that season. It was voted for very early. He was terrible like most of the team the second half of 88/89!

Great thread. Every single top quality player who played with him had 100% respect for him.

It was actually 16-7 on his first day, but not taking away from how glorious it was that he managed to overtake them. Never thought I would see that in my lifetime!

I was at the game and was a bit frustrated at 8-0 for a long time we really took our foot off the pedal. Could have been 10 easily. Greedy I know!

I loved reading that! Forget the next 10 days , Fergie had the better of wenger in the next three months. At that time I confess I thought arsenal would win the league again. 2002/03 was one of my favourite titles

That really is a thing of beauty!

B. I define world class as making a world XI and he’s been just short of that. Easily our best player in the last decade. His availability and willingness to play almost every game is under appreciated

Pearce was so ridiculously incensed about the sending off he barely left any room to take it up a level for the kung fu kick. But he managed it !

Voller did nothing wrong and got a red too!

B but partnership with Yorke was A in the treble season!

I love this goal. Absolutely perfect weight of passes, no player breaks their stride at all
comment in response to post
Has to be E because if you rate each individual season they would range from B to F

What a dummy on the keeper

Followed by a long period of depression far worse than even the post Busby and post Fergie eras!

On his day he was superb , often extremely frustrating and often superb and frustrating in the same game!

Robbo and Eric. Do not make me choose one 😊

Bierhoff, decent player, but punching above his weight outscoring some of those guys !

7 defenders + darron Gibson!!!

Yes, they didn’t do much to stop the ball stinging, especially when soaking wet!!

They didn’t have time!
comment in response to post
They’re not thinking he’s going to anything other than absolutely twat it !!

Love the celebration

The fee was £1.0m, the £1.2m quoted at the time was to flatter Leeds!

I often think how good players like baggio would be today. Better pitches, no backpass to keepers, offside more in attackers’ favour, defenders can’t commit assault

I honestly can’t pick one, but right up there is Pallister vs Blackburn 1993

93/94 was one of my favourite times supporting United. I was worried 92/93 could be a one-off, not the highest points total, rivals weak etc. And then next season we went to another level. We were fcking awesome

Exactly, he seemed to sulk when we signed Berbatov. Not sure if Berbatov was the right signing (as much as I liked him), but still Tevez could have done a lot more to fight for his place back

I have a lot of respect for Shankly. Funny that my respect for dippers managers seems to be in an almost perfect reverse chronological order. The current incumbent will have to work hard to keep that going and become a bigger tw@t than klopp though 😀

Bosnich, very disappointing second spell with us

Possibly the most frustrating player I ever saw play for united. Because he could be unbelievably good on his day

Ince was incredible from 1992-95, one of our best, and most popular, players. His antics since distract from how good he was

Also from my Dad. There was never any decision to be made. I literally can’t remember not supporting United!

Do you have a link? I watched extended highlights a few years ago which were incredible, but couldn’t find it more recently
