Since it apparently needs to be said: As a Jew who works on a university campus, I am safest in a country that protects academic freedom and liberal values of due process of law. Anyone who supports extrajudicial detention of students for "wrong" ideological opinions is not doing it for my safety.

I make no excuse for terrorists or terrorist organizations. I also believe that when someone is arrested, it should be for reasonable suspicion of committing a well-defined crime, not for disagreeing with the President or his policies.

In 2022 I acted in a play, Indecent, that touches on the Shoah. During rehearsal I read to the cast the last letter from my great grandfather, telling his children that he was about to board a train to Lodz, and that their mother, who died the previous year, was the lucky one. Not ancient history.
