What could possibly go wrong ...

Please read and share. Musk is attempting to blame Ukraine for the X cyberattack, but word has already spread that it was a false flag. What is a false flag? A false flag operation is an act committed to disguise the actual source of responsibility and shift blame onto another party.

NEWS: Judge Amir Ali finds that the Trump administration is likely violating separation of powers in partially granting a preliminary injunction in the State Department/USAID foreign aid case. As with the TRO, he also finds the government is likely violating the APA with the non-payment issues.

The President of the United States is vowing to disappear students from college campuses who say things the government doesn't like. There are not enough alarms for this.

Just a reminder that Gary Trudeau warned us long, long ago.

Tuberculosis, the deadliest infectious disease on the planet, kills more than 1.25M people a year. New infections are expected to surge by 30% as a result of closing USAID, a memo says. The increase will inevitably lead to cases in the U.S.

Stranded students should be a bigger story - gift link. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/07/u...

I have perspective. This is not devastating in a way rolling up vaccine and cancer research is. Or ending foreign aid programs. Or tanking the world economy. But it was a small, beautiful thing in the world. A testament to a forgotten age of building and cooperation.

Reminder that instead of attending Donald Trump's first address to Congress tonight I'll be hosting an open-to-all town hall on Facebook live at 6 PM PT. You don't need a Facebook account – or to be an Oregonian – to tune in. Look forward to seeing you all soon.

One thing I am puzzled about is AARP’s weak response to this. In addition to your reps, I’d suggest registering your displeasure with AARP. They have the capacity to mobilize millions of older adults to prevent this. It’s why they’re there! www.aarp.org/social-secur...

The attempted mugging of a visiting president was about the world war that Musk, Trump, and Vance have chosen. If we attend to what Vance and Trump said yesterday, we can work our way to the unreason of American policy, and to the chaos that will follow. snyder.substack.com/p/the-war-tr...

We just received word that the DOJ has begun removing data detailing criminal charges and convictions related to Trump loyalists. This started with records from the January 6th insurrection, but additional records are now being erased. We will keep you updated once we have more info.

An accurate and horribly sad statement.

Sen Dick Durbin (D-IL) uncorks quite a reaction: “Former President Ronald Reagan and the late Senator John McCain are rolling over in their graves at the thought of an American president sullying America’s image by siding at the UN with dictators in Russia…”

Just one more piece of insanity.

I can't think of a faster way to undermine the country than simultaneously firing government workers, cutting scientific research, rolling back protections on public health & environment, & cutting essential services. It's like the US was defeated in war and is being occupied by a hostile enemy.

This is happening. Make it big. Stand up for Science marches in Washington and nationwide on March 7th. Some local information here: standupforscience2025.org/local-event-...

This is frightening.

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

These people all have actual conflicts of interest that should keep them from working on any investigations like this. It's a measure of how tainted and corrupt this Justice Department is becoming and it breaks my heart. I hope it doesn't break our country. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

I'm gifting this article so everyone can see the sloppiness and inaccuracies in DOGE's work. This is what happens when a chainsaw is used to perform delicate surgery - and when people inexperienced in the workings of government get their hands on it. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

GOV. MILLS: “.. Maine may be one of the first states to undergo an investigation by his Administration, but we won’t be the last. .. “.. But you must ask yourself: who and what will he target next, and what will he do? Will it be you?” www.pressherald.com/2025/02/21/r...

Last night's Pentagon massacre is much more than realized. Not just firing the black CJCS and first woman CNO but all the senior JAG officers and hiring a man who just joined 3 different crypto firms tied to Kushner and Thiel as Chairman. I did a deep dive into it open.substack.com/pub/fpwellma...

29 scientists urge the SBTi to remain science-based and not allow carbon offsetting for Scope 3 emissions: "As decades of research has demonstrated the flaws of carbon offsets, embracing them would be a clear departure from the commitment to science-based approaches by the SBTi."

Today is the 100th anniversary of the “Judges’ Bill”—a statute that radically transformed #SCOTUS’s docket, and, through it, the Supreme Court’s role in our constitutional system. Today’s bonus “One First” takes a deep dive into the law’s continuing effects: www.stevevladeck.com/p/bonus-123-...

A lot of folks asked why I through this January's record global temperatures were so unexpected. I think this graph shows it pretty clearly: pretty much every other January with La Nina conditions has been a cooler than the surrounding years.

[email protected] and I are demanding answers from the Trump administration about what exactly is happening at the Department of Education. This former preschool teacher is not about to roll over and let Elon Musk destroy public education in America. thehill.com/homenews/edu...

This, in a nutshell.

Conservative budget wonks (Manhattan Instiutte, Tax Foundation) confirming that this is a consittutional crisis. Not liberal hysteria. Happening right now.

We desperately, urgently need a media that isn’t afraid to name this as the evisceration of the federal government. That is what is going on. We cannot only be comfortable using such language when the situation is far away in time or space. It’s happening here. We need to be clear.

This is not good.

Today at 2:30 pm ET, @sranderson.bsky.social, George Ingram, Tony Pipa, and Jonathan Katz will discuss the changes occuring at USAID as President Donald Trump and Elon Musk consider shutting down the agency.
