(4) Recommended responses include institutional responses and explicit objections from disciplinary groups. Also, although the termination letters say no opportunity to appeal, the law and the terms of most grants do allow appeals, so PIs should connect with institutional legal counsel.

(3) There will be no new calls for proposals for STEM education, STEM education research, climate, environment, or environmental justice. They are expecting a new large batch of terminations to go out this Friday.

(2) NSF budget cuts are going to be far deeper than expected, and almost all 'broadening participation in STEM' programs will be killed. Moving forward, only standard grants will be funded.

no just verbal support.… the college is facing a serious deficit, likely to go up with the federal freezes and cuts, and I don't think any equity arguments will outweigh the $$$

this is exactly why I developed the course - I used to do these skills as part of my bio course, and wanted to offer them to all incoming students. The other faculty really appreciated it!

Yes to all this (had to do this for the first run), and I also wrote a report based on students' reflections. I offered to open it to all STEM majors (it was just biology this fall…) but with the huge budget shortfall anticipated for next year, they aren't budging. Sigh.

My peer TA and I wrote a report based on students' reflections during the course. We're actually planning a survey of the fall students to ascertain how their spring courses have gone. But I just learned that my college has a huge short-fall in harvest for next fall…
