"Antisemitism in the Oval Office: A confrontation seen with a historian's eye" snyder.substack.com/p/antisemiti...

This is how you tell who Trump’s constituents are. bsky.app/profile/juli...

It’s an obvious point but apparently we have to keep making it: when Trump weakens Ukraine he created the conditions for a longer and bloodier war.

Russia’s leaders have said nothing about peace. They have made a list of demands on the US, the fulfillment of which allows them to broaden the war against Ukraine. And the US simply fulfills all of these Russian demands without question. That is only a peace process in the Orwellian sense.

"If we have a president who considers himself an aspiring dictator among real dictators, the United States is weak where it might have been strong... we find ourselves in a submissive position that no one ever actually wanted – no one, except for Trump, Putin, and Xi."

I don't know who this guy is but he's absolute right.

Here I react to the shameful behavior of American leaders and media toward the Ukrainian president. No doubt there were more, but I saw five failures on our side: of hospitality, decency, democracy, strategy, and independence. Please watch and share. snyder.substack.com/p/five-failu...

Given that the Trump people did nothing to induce Russia to end the war, it’s fair to conclude that the whole idea of pursuing peace was just a pretext to renew relations with Russia.

Russia does not want to end the war, and the Trump administration has shown no ability to induce Russia to end the war. And so, predictably, the Trump administration blames the victim, blames Ukraine.

"Putin went through a hell of a lot with me." ~Donald Trump

American statements in the Oval Office indistinguishable from Russian propaganda and celebrated by Russian propagandists.

Trump and Vance act as if the problem is that Ukraine is resisting an ongoing Russian invasion. The problem is the ongoing Russian invasion. If they want to use American power to stop the war, apply it to the aggressor. Abusing the victim is not going to end a war of aggression.

If America has different allies, are we the same kind of country? @peterpomerantsev.bsky.social and I made a podcast episode discussing this last summer www.theatlantic.com/podcasts/arc...

“The Ukrainian president was elected in free elections in Ukraine..he is an elected president of a free system. That's not the case with Vladimir Putin, who kills his opponents and has been manipulating his elections for a long time” Emmanuel Macron President of France 👏

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

As the #BrokenTimes and #BrokenPost call Trump's extortion a "deal", the #GoodGuardian once again shows them the way, calling it what it is: theft and blackmail. ‘It’s blackmail’: Ukrainians react to Trump demand for $500bn share of minerals www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Trump likes being #2, he likes doing the PR work, being in front of the camera, getting the adulation, but serving the boss. Musk will dominate him at home and Putin will dominate him abroad. He will deliver their lines, as he has just done for Putin in shocking fashion, and does for Musk every day.

"I am on a night train from Kyiv, bound for Zaporizhzhia, a city in the southeast of Ukraine which is about twenty miles from the front... As I get ready to go to sleep, I find myself thinking that Americans are also speeding towards a line." snyder.substack.com/p/crossing-a...

Elon—the richest man on Earth—is gutting the world’s largest provider of food aid. He could end world hunger single-handedly and still be the richest man alive. But he won’t. Instead, he spent 40 million on Super Bowl ads attacking USAID! Stand with USAID: share this counter-ad…

True. “Wilmington’s Lie” by David Zucchino is a must-read, BTW.

Could it be that @kpmgus.bsky.social, as the internal control auditors of the Treasury, is the most important firewall to protect the country now ? @aoc.bsky.social @schumer.senate.gov @ericswalwell.bsky.social @stephruhle.bsky.social Can someone interview them ?

The AHA & the @oah.org have released a joint statement on the presidential executive order “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K–12 Schooling.” “We reject the premise that it is ‘anti-American’ or ‘subversive’ to learn the full history of the United States.” 🗃️

Obviously illegal, immoral, and just plain disgusting for a handful of young people to seize the personal and financial data of millions of others and hand it to a centibillionaire.

Sometimes self-government just means elections. And sometimes it means recognizing the deeper dignity and meaning of what it means to be a people. That means speaking up, standing out, and protesting. We can only be free together. snyder.substack.com/p/the-logic-...

Trump's proposed appointments look like a decapitation strike: destroying the American government from the top, leaving the body politic to rot, and the rest of us to suffer. snyder.substack.com/p/decapitati...

The history of failed nominations reminds us just how far some of the Cabinet nominees fall below any reasonable standard. The Senate has a constitutional role, and in the past has exercised it. snyder.substack.com/p/rejected-c...

Hegseth lacks the normal qualifications for secretary of defense. His books reveal two ideas about what armed forces are for: a site to express Christian Reconstructionism and gender ideology; and a means to defeat other Americans inside America. snyder.substack.com/p/the-crusad...

We are facing a moment when much will change for the worse, not just in policy, but in the structure of politics itself. We need to be imagining a better America. A Shadow Cabinet would be a positive form of opposition. snyder.substack.com/p/shadow-cab...

The most that can be said about the present moment is that there is disagreement within the Leopards Eating People’s Faces Party about which faces to eat in what order.
