This essay by trans cyclist Austin Killips is a must-read and is a perfect dismantling of the lie that Republicans are trying to "save women's sports."

The Kinsey report in the big bad woke days of 1947 showed 37% of men had some sort of homosexual experience. It's not that we are more queer now, it's that it's more accepted to be open about it.

If you are a cis person *please* take 2 minutes to do this. Trans people with non-updated gender markers, historical gender marker changes, and X markers are terrified to travel right now; rolling back this policy would mean a lot.

Fast trains catalyze EV adoption: "By alleviating range anxiety, the expansion of high-speed rail can account for up to 1/3 of the increase in EV market share and EV sales in China [from 2010-23]." www.nber.org/papers/w33489

It's not about sports.

Lots of heroes in this world - keep looking for them….

Rally for federal workers in Chicago today in single-digit temps. 🥶 Trump & Musk are firing the hard-working folks who keep your air, water, and food safe #GreatLakes #CleanWater www.chicagotribune.com/2025/02/06/t...

Wrote about the morally vacuous, strategically unsound (and also wrong!) anti-“woke”diagnosis everyone’s still sticking with, even in the midst of civil rights apocalypse.

It is by far a worse crime to unconstitutionally take over key government functions, steal people’s information & money, usurp the legislative branch’s authority in choosing what gets funded, and violate written processes for operation of the executive than to immigrate without documentation. So…

The federal funding freeze is hitting rural communities hard — especially those relying on the Rural Energy for America Program, which... 💰 Provides grants to cut energy costs 🌱 Supports clean energy & efficiency projects 🚜 Strengthens rural economies Funding is stalled, leaving many waiting.

Just like supporting climate action. Keep talking about these things folks - most people agree with you despite what you may think.

From a federal court decision blocking Trump's anti-trans healthcare order: "The Court cannot fathom discrimination more direct than the plain pronouncement of a policy resting on the premise that the group to which the policy is directed does not exist."

What these nihilistic vandals are doing to dismantle science & medicine—generations of expertise & public service & life improving benefits—is cultural revolution level national self harm. No foreign foe could inflict such brutal damage & senseless suffering on US so fast & effectively & unresisted.

The scale of censorship is stagfering

I'm done with the commentators who keep saying this is "approaching" a "constitutional crisis" etc... It's bullshit. The crisis is here and more than that this is an administrative coup d'etat. The people refusing to be honest don't want to land the plane because they don't want to say what's next.

Transphobic legislation hurts everyone

In a CBS October poll just before the election, more than 60 percent of Americans said efforts to promote racial and gender equality had been going about right or not far enough. www.scribd.com/document/784...

Reminder that whenever someone says "gender ideology," they're referring to the mere existence of trans people, not an ideology. This is eliminationist garbage.

NEW modeling study on covid vaccination: -More than 68,000 people averted hospitalization with covid in 2023-24 bc they have been vaccinated -More than 13,000 averted intensive care bc they were vaccinated -Roughly 5,000 lives were saved bc of covid vaccines www.cidrap.umn.edu/covid-19/cov...

I don’t know about y’all, but I’m starting to think the only thing that kept the planes from crashing before was diversity.

Some higher ed organizations who are loudly circling the wagons against federal funding cuts were oddly silent or circumspect about the earlier attacks on CRT and DEI. I wish there was a better understanding that these attacks are coming because we failed to repel those.

It takes 240 trees to absorb the CO₂ produced from one car in a single year. Building dense, walkable cities where more people can live a car-free lifestyle saves trees in the exurbs and makes a bigger difference than the most heavily forested backyard.

Someone at the American Bar Association ate their Wheaties this morning.

Just want to say a big fuck you to everyone who treats kids and athletes as the enemy, or their health & well-being as a “distraction.” Being able to play a fucking game with your friends is the kind of shit that makes life worth living. To block that is pure evil

New research suggests congestion pricing and transit investments are probably the only practical way of reducing traffic congestion. New York City is the perfect test case. I wrote about it for @innovativedot.bsky.social. ssti.us/2025/02/03/c...

Every word I read about congestion pricing reminds me of when they reintroduced wolves in Yellowstone and the whole ecosystem started working correctly again.

It's truly bullshit that Trump is manipulating Title IX to attack trans women under the guise of defending other women while he simultaneously guts provisions of the law aimed at protecting sexual assault victims.

Holy fuckin shit

As a fourth generation Chicagoan who is as much a Chicagoan as any my neighbors, I endorse this statement

Congestion Pricing is creating tremendous benefits. Subway Ridership: ⬆️ 13% Bus Ridership: ⬆️ 6% (⬆️ 21% weekends) Transit Crime: 🔻36% Fatal Car Crashes: 🔻44% Trip Times: 🔻10-30%
