Why is our aid money *still* invested in fossil fuel assets? No wonder the government is trying to keep this secret. As I argue here, this is trapping poorer countries into a type of energy which is on its way out, all the while profiting fossil fuel companies.

Important new FOI findings revealed by @joshgabbatiss.bsky.social

Don't look now, but we're teetering on the verge of a truly historic moment.

I just created a quick map depicting which portions of the United States are now (as of today) or will imminently be (by early June) without 24/7 local National Weather Service coverage (per Washington Post reporting). #CAwx #CAfire #CAwater #ORwx #AKwx #WYwx #KSwx

Hard to over-estimate the potential significance of this - if the trend continues

NEW – Interview: What the people of China’s coal-rich Shanxi think about climate change | @anikanpatel.carbonbrief.org @tomwxj.bsky.social

I've long been fascinated by the complex scientific, social and moral challenges posed by solar geoengineering The UK's new solar geo research scheme – and some pretty crazy coverage of it – gave me a chance to revisit the topic in a new factcheck www.carbonbrief.org/factcheck-ho...

Private Eye calls out "former newspaper" Daily Telegraph over its woeful coverage of net-zero

Quite possibly the biggest climate story of the year (especially when we look back on this in a few years' time) For the first time on record, China's emissions are falling due to clean energy growth, not slow power demand...

The earliest media reference to the term "net zero" (in relation to emissions) that I can find searching through the archives comes from a quote dated 6 Feb 1998 in a Dow Jones newswire report. The source of the quote? BP's then-CEO John Browne

More than one in four cars sold worldwide this year will be electric, says @iea.org www.iea.org/reports/glob...

Wow. Reuters reporting that Xi 'expected' to attend COP30. Climate geopolitics flipping fast with China now clearly keen to take "lead" with US under Trump in retreat. "Xi is also expected to visit Brazil for [COP30], which officials expect to include some 1,000 Chinese business leaders."

When it rains, it now rains more

That moment when you're invited to provide evidence for your false claims - and can't... "He added: 'There’s quite a few scientists that say we don’t need to get to net zero by 2050.' Bowie and his office were unable to name such scientists when pressed."

The Sun, Mail, Express and Telegraph are now relentlessly characterising Ed Miliband as "mad", a "loon", "insane", "crazy", etc Such word choices are v deliberate. But imagine the outrage from these same newspapers if, say, their beloved Nigel Farage was ever described in media in this way

This is the standout moment in the new Attenborough movie, imo. Shocking and heartbreaking. But also technically striking. How did they actually film it? And get permission?

Sigh. Paging @climateofgavin.bsky.social who has already been quoted by Reuters and USA Today in earlier factchecks correcting this zombie false claim now being promoted by Reform and Telegraph. www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/e3db7be...

The 2004 lecture that finally convinced David Attenborough about global warming | @leohickman.carbonbrief.org #CBarchive

Sir David Attenborough celebrates his 99th birthday today. Over his lifetime he has witnessed *incredible* changes to the biosphere. eg... When he was born in 1926, the atmospheric concentration of CO2 stood at 306 parts per million. Today, it has risen to 431ppm - and is still rising fast...
