Yeah, stat holidays will do that. I always advance vote too and I miss the quick experience πŸ˜† 35 minutes for us.

35 minutes in Durham region, 100+ people in lines. Poll worker said it's been like that all day. I guess advance polling on a stat holiday is good for turnout.

It would've been nice if the others let us hear what he said. Pollievre gave a whole speech over top of him while he "had the floor"

🎯 And travel to the US is simply not accessible to so many people, for so many reasons - and the list gets longer every day.

They absolutely should! But they manufactured poor uptake by making it unknown and near impossible to get πŸ˜”.

It's SO hard to get white on top of an existing colour....I've been there. Our main floor was painted grey (probably right before the prev owners listed it). What a pain...

I got a bunch of Ford ones during the provincial election (blocked/reported spam) and a Carney one as soon as he won the leadership.

In Ontario, some of our libraries have day passes for provincial parks that you can sign out. Do you have that there?

I've also been hearing of a lot of shingles cases following covid infections.

"Knowing better" implies morals or ethics. Knowing about logical fallacies allows a person the choice to avoid them, or if inclined, use them for people to be trapped by them.

I DO understand the barriers that some people face and that it's not simple. But for the "i dunno my parents have it" crowd, i have no sympathy.
comment in response to post
I also think it's a wakeup call that maybe we should take charge of our documents when we become adults, rather than relying on our parents to not lose them for such a time as this.

Ones citizenship. I think those of us with drivers licenses forget what those without use. I've used my birth cert to fly domestically. It can be used for a decent number of things but ppl generally don't.
comment in response to post
So what we are seeing is that the other 63% should probably have it or a citizenship card as proof of citizenship under this administration, whether the SAVE act goes through or not. Essentially its the foundation to better ID, but can be used with a marriage ones citizenship. rtificate to prove oi
comment in response to post
Is there no other reason to have a birth certificate? Because otherwise it seems like that's something ppl should have anyway - ie. Not a tax to vote, so much as a document you should acquire for a range of reasons.
comment in response to post
I wonder if we'd care so much if it wasn't Trump doing it. Having to prove citizenship to register to vote doesn't seem like a bad thing. I'm actually a bit concerned now that Canada doesn't seem to require it.... I can't remember if I provided proof at any point or if they vet the list somehow.

I think there is a missing piece to the puzzle. Either it's not as evil a change as it seems, or they are counting on millions of women being unwilling to take these steps to keep their right to vote, or there is another obstacle to the solutions I've suggested that I can't see.

You can work in a married name even if your ID has a maiden name (or vice versa). Many people do. Only certain professions regulate that (ie. Law, and that's maiden name). Many of us don't use the name on our ID for everyday life stuff anyway.
comment in response to post
vs losing your vote??? Obviously bureaucracy is different there but having done both those things here, it's not that hard either. There are ways to request records,& ppl change names when they get married, so changing it back (ie @ divorce) is the same. Harder for trans ppl though, I get that.

That is such a beautiful idea. It does boggle the mind how such tenderhearted people have such dissonant politics, but that's something I've been struggling with for years because I see it at church too.
comment in response to post
2 questions: 1. Why don't these people have their birth certificates? 2. Why not (in case of married women) just revert to their maiden names on their ID? Or make a legal name change which changes their birth cert too?

When it comes to strawberries, pick a number....this time of year, it's probably true πŸ˜† Most people don't know it if they aren't the shopper in the family. Maybe he doesn't even like strawberries. I don't buy them this time of year because they are underripe. Come June, I'll know the price.

Also, it's one of the few channels one can still get for free with an antenna. Our family only gets CBC and TVO, and therefore that's all we watch. Can't afford cable but our publicly-funded stations come through and are great. Most of the detractors don't even watch it.

The Star did that to me. I cancelled it outright and waited for a sale, which of course came around eventually.
