I had been up since 3:30 am with the toddler who suddenly decided he didn't want to sleep tonight and I may have slightly crashed out.

"I don't go to the independent bookstore, Barnes and Noble has better prices." "But the independent bookstore is downtown, in a walkable area, pays its employees a living wage, and offers better benefits than Barnes and Noble" "Oh so poor people shouldn't be able to afford books"

"I don't shop there. That store is a chain, the owner owns two other stores downtown." "Those stores sell different things. That's not what a chain store is." "Why are you defending a millionaire"

Turns out no one in 2011 wanted to run the experiment of whether an all-volunteer force would continue to go on patrols in Afghanistan if they weren't getting paid.

Source on the barracks thing www.military.com/daily-news/2...

The Army has already stopped most barracks repairs on Fort Cavazos to pay for the border mission. I don't know what part of the Defense budget they're robbing to pay for any of this, but it's worth asking.

I don't know which one is the answer! But you have to at least ask the question.

The county has an explicit housing policy of prioritizing POC, LGBT people, and other groups dwemed vulnerable. So... is the survey racist and flawed, or is your policy of prioritizing housing for LGBT and POC working? What does success look like with that policy?

Tbf I know a lot of millennials who have gone sober and the non-alcoholic beer helps them when they want the nostalgia for the exact feeling you just described.

Don't get me wrong - I'm here and not on Twitter because whatever issues this place has, it's still 1000× better than Twitter in 2025.

No, this place has crochet classes they are hosting this summer and have also shown in the past that they're LGBT friendly by doing things like offering a place for Trans fiber artists to display their work on the Trans day of visibility. It was a joke in earned good faith.

(Crocheters often complain that they feel like yarn shops cater mainly to knitters and that they feel left out)

It was but all the names of towns mentioned in the story are real places, and places very close to where I grew up so it's hard to suspend my disbelief about what the Hudson and Lake George look like 😂

Tears are going to be shed if those kids ever quit.

All the adults are chowing down on tacos, pancit, and lumpia and then there's a stack of pizzas from Costco for the kids 😂

Speculation on r/army yesterday was definitely that it would be 29 day orders. Once it hits 30 days there's a huge jump in the benefits they have to pay out. Haven't really checked in to see what they're saying today.

It's not the most pressing issue of our time or anything but I absolutely see people delude themselves into thinking that the opinions expressed on BlueSky are representative of the opinions of society at large.

Your average FBI agent and analyst did not choose that challenging path because they wanted to be investigating a housewife who overstayed her tourist visa.
