The Internet Archive has rolled out an extremely effective new tool for searching for old Geocities GIFs. I'd apologize for what I'm about to do to this website as a result, but that would be a lie, because I won't feel sorry at all gifcities.org

The Senate bill aims to effectively end all civil rights lawsuits against the federal government except by entities rich enough to potentially pay million/billions in fees. I am not making this up.

“Tesla’s driverless ‘robotaxis’ could launch in Austin as soon as June 22. But a demo in Austin today showed a $TSLA, manually driven to test its Full Self-Driving system, failed to stop for a child-sized dummy at a school bus—and hit it.” @cbsaustin @velez_tx

A police chief saying he expects to be arrested and jailed by the federal government for how he chooses to do his official job—esp when it seems to be in the context of NOT interfering w ppl using their constitutional rights—feels like a really bad thing.

ICYMI: Federal judge GRANTS California Governor Gavin Newsom @governor.ca.gov’s Motion for a Temporary Restraining Order, telling Trump he ILLEGALLY deployed the California National Guard to LA. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Good thread. Awful actions by LAPD. #ice #lapd #losangeles

Update: We've removed the paywall for all ye who enter.

HERE IS A THING that EVERY American can do: 1. Call your Senator. 2. Say the following: "I am requesting that you place a hold on the nomination of Bill Essayli as U.S. Attorney for the Central District of CA for directing federal agents to assault a U.S. Senator." 3. Call other Senator, repeat

We drill into military officers that Members of Congress have Constitutional oversight rights, Members outrank four-stars in protocol, and even Congressional staffers are treated like generals/admirals. To see sworn federal officers manhandle and handcuff a U.S. Senator... I'm still shook up.

Neat.

Important thread here about state level assaults on public university funding

I believe in the rule of law, of robust systems, a strong Presidency, a strong Congress, and a strong Judiciary, and separation of powers. A strong military is important to our defense and deterrence. Allies matter. Presidents are entitled to their advisors. But right now now is going wrong.

Yet again, yes it's okay to be pissed that Democrats aren't doing more. But framing Democrats as the only ones with agency while Republicans hold the balance of power and still get to whoops-a-daisy into authoritarianism is bullshit. Call your GOP reps.

“Who you gone believe me or your lying eyes” COMBINED with “I was so scared” COMBINED with “Why on earth would I believe a Brown man would have a right to be near me despite it being a closed announcement”

Every Dem Senator: "What happened to Senator Padilla today was an unprecedented breach of constitutional government and demonstrates the scale of the threat to our republic." Also Every Dem Senator: [Goes back to business as usual] 18 Dem Senators: [Vote for Trump's crypto bill]

Sen. Alex Padilla, who was just forcibly removed from a DHS press conference, is the ranking member of Judiciary’s subcommittee on immigration, citizenship, and border safety, which has “oversight of federal agencies with citizenship, asylum, refugee, and immigration enforcement responsibilities.”

A gathering storm in civil-military relations: “What I can say is we should not have local judges determining foreign policy or national security policy for the country,” Hegseth said.

My University has told us that despite growing ug and grad majors, we are losing a TT history position (not filling line of departing prof). Today they announced they hired a new "chief artificial intelligence strategist." Guess how I feel about this.

Well, and you have to remember that although the DATA is PD, the curation and refinement provided by Harvard still makes that aspect of the dataset the special purview of Harvard. Arrangement is important!

Thank goodness! Think about how many kids have been fatally shot in school by Judy Blume books!

When Los Angeles actually *was* burning down six months ago, these people didn't give a damn about us. Now they're spreading fake AI videos showing LA burning

This is called "conducting law enforcement operations" and it is illegal. I don't care if they're just standing around. It's so fucking illegal.

A nightmare scenario
