not the first time I’ve said this and more qualified people have surely said it to, but I still think this is the long tail of the professionalization of journalism. we were better served by working class, unionized news reporters who understood class in a way the J Schoolers just don’t.

OK history 🗃️ people, help me out: Wikipedia says Juan Vásquez de Coronado was one of the Holy League commanders at Lepanto in 1571, which obviously wrong as he died at sea in 1565. 1/2

(this is of course a lie I know exactly why the Women's March keeps getting memory-holed)

When cruelty is seen as patriotic, compassion is seen as treasonous.

The Tea Party protests in April 2009 had about a third of a million people involved, and the political media treated it like a game changer for the Obama presidency. The No Kings rallies were AT LEAST ten times bigger than the Tea Party protests. Will the press keep pretending Trump is popular?

The number of people arguing with this number because “Alt National Park Service said it was 11 million” is kind of staggering to me. Folks, Alt NPS is not real, okay? None of the “alt” accounts are. They don’t have special knowledge. They pulled that number out of thin air/their ass

If there's one scenario that the Navy EOD community has thought out and revised its planning for extensively over decades, it's the potential mining of the Strait of Hormuz

This is serious, rigorous analysis and it should change the way the media has been covering these protests. These were, in the aggregate, *massive.*

This Day in Labor History: June 15, 1917. President Woodrow Wilson signed the Espionage Act into law. Let's talk about this evil anti-radical law that lays the groundwork for what Trump wants to do today.

ok maybe the American flag scolds had a point, this photo goes hard

Things are still happening down here… ricksblog.biz/daily-outtak...

What we are seeing in Los Angeles right now with #NoKings is after several hours of a massive protest that was 100%, law enforcement—abruptly and without provocation—began firing tear gas, flash bangs and pepper balls at protesters. It was broadcast live on air. “Unrest” is on them.

This Army birthday I’m thinking of Medal of Honor recipient Pvt Henry Johnson of the 369th NY National Guard (known as the Harlem Hellfighters). The 369th served more days in the WWI trenches than an other US unit, took more casualties also. DOD just stripped Johnson’s name off Ft. Polk.

BREAKING: Police are responding to a shooting during the "No Kings" protest in downtown Salt Lake City. One person is in custody.

Do not perceive me lest I show you no mercy

Say it for the back row: THEY DON’T THINK

great reminder to all of those Democrats and liberals saying that we need to abandon red states because they are gerrymandered into right wing autocracies where the vote isn’t in their favor instead of accepting that we are gonna have to fight for every American no matter where they are.

The parades after Desert Storm were well-attended and properly planned. It’s not like we don’t have folks around who’ve at least witnessed them in person.

watch the horses trample the press in real time, right here in america

This is for you @jaketapper.bsky.social

We interrupt your regularly scheduled doomscrolling for this muppetized timeline cleanse. #DoomscrollingBreak

1. Let's put this together. The assassin appears to be the follower of the New Apolostolic Reformation, which holds that American society is literally under demonic possessions. (And you, dear reader, are one of the demon.) www.wired.com/story/shooti...

"But until problematic and corrupted governance is remedied" Do you reckon @stopwoodsidemonash.bsky.social? When you literally have *members* of the #atlasnetwork in your university... eg: Melbourne University = dark history, yes. Dark future too. Hello? #Academicsky @nteunion.bsky.social

How was this even published?? Not even hiding the use of AI in writing the paper, to the point of crediting ChatGPT as co-author, and then apologising for doing so because AI tools shouldn’t be credited as co-authors. Not for using AI to write the damn paper, though! FFS. 📚 #AcademicSky

How do Stand Your Ground laws interact with masked, non identified, no badge people trying to invade homes, places of business, etc.? Any papers or legal analyses out yet? And are any applicable in public places, private cars and so on?

“a driver in an SUV intentionally drove into a crowd of protesters in Culpeper, hitting at least one person. “ www.fox5dc.com/news/man-dri...

This was mostly true during the Vietnam War, too. The colorful and violent folks get more attention because they generate more revenue because they’re “more interesting.”

O.M.G. @bachynski.bsky.social this is why its so important for me to start our class with pre-germ theory ideas of disease.

Libraries can’t archive digital subs like we did with print because we have no ownership rights. One of the endless knock-on effects from the lack of digital ownership and the Spotification of digital scholarly content. 🤷‍♀️

They are actively arresting peaceful protesters for wearing medical masks at the protests. Now if you are wondering how police are treating nonviolent protesters. Have a feeling this is going to turn into a thread of actions today

So the suspected republican assassin in the murder of a state legislator here in Minnesota and the attempted murder of another ran his own private security firm, and multiple members of his family were police. Someday people will accept that what those of us on the academic side are saying is true

Free Online U.S. Mortuary and Funeral Home Records Can't find a DC and need the cause of death? Need to find out who the deceased is related to? Possibly a death date or cemetery that you can't find elsewhere? Mortuary records are hard to find, but they are worth it. buff.ly/rBRRfVb #genealogy

This is v astute. Belew's _Bring the War Home_ describes white nationalists as early internet adopters who wanted to produce this state of affairs! A nationwide movement that retained plausible deniability as to its breadth because of decentralization and the creation of alternative media sources.
