You’d think considering its proximity to the Quayside it’d be ripe for some infill development.
Do you think it’s the shape, large retaining walls and it being hemmed in by roads that’s the issue?

Can you remember this proposal for the site, ‘No 1 Quayside’, a 12-storey office building?
That was 5 years ago now. 😔

Interesting! I never realised Croft St once continued up to where the Laing Art Gallery stands.

No, I don’t believe so.
With a Ferry ticket however you can get a free transfer onto bus 19 or 317 from North Shields ferry landing up to North Shields Station/town centre, due to the steep bank between them.
I hadn’t put fare zones on my map. That’d be for the authorities & operators to decide. 🙂

Which 54 do you want?
The ‘Go North East 54’ or the ‘Go North East 54’?
Yes, both 54s are now ran by the same operator! 🫠

‘Gateshead Railway Quarter’ signage on Askew Rd (east)/Wellington St, Hills St, Quaysgate and High Level Rd.

Oh. 😔
The double reds and bus gate on Newgate Street are ignored.
Enforcement would make a difference.

Pilgrim St is certainly looking a lot better following the improvements, though I’d have loved Dutch Entrance Kerbs (continuous pavements) across the side streets, or at least Side Zebras to make it clearer drivers must give way to pedestrians & cyclists when turning in to/out of side streets. 🚶🏻

And TPE’s bi-modes are still having to run on diesel north of Alnmouth to Reston Station because there’s not enough juice up there!

Not sure on their range tbh, I presumed it was just to limp to the nearest station. 🤷
I suppose if the Metro ever does reach Washington they’d need to order additional trains, so could get a batch with larger batteries.
Merseyrail’s Stadlers run on battery mode between Kirkby and Headbolt Lane.

Without doing a search, I seem to recall suggestions it would be adjacent to Quarryfield Rd (left screenshot), however I’d love to see it over the Tyne Bridge approach stretching to the Glasshouse car park (right screenshot).
Keep meaning to do a thread on it.

I presumed electric heavy rail would be unlikely going off the UK’s recent electrification progress.
LNER Azuma services run on diesel when diverting through Sunderland and along the Durham Coast, so could do this on the Leamside too, leaving the overheads on Leamside North for Metro. 🤷

And then the dense housing that was proposed for Tynemouth Station was rejected! Numerous concerns it didn’t have enough car parking provision! Despite the station on its doorstep!

I agree, makes perfect sense!
I was a little disappointed how suburban the new housing is near Chillingham Rd and Gateshead Stadium stations, (although perhaps once the G.Highway is gone, a corridor of more dense development will line the new boulevard).

Shared on Twitter too.
Is there anywhere I can read more on it, other than the IG caption?

Anyone complaining our new Metros have few seats should be shown that!
