Until he got tired of wearing it and squirmed his way out of it, it did. 😆

I work at an animal shelter; really all my social media has been cats for some time now, lol.

Ooo, pretty!
I have the annotated Chronicles somewhere, I should pull that out again sometime. :)

He got scritches, he still doesn't allow full cuddles. I would cuddle him for hours if he let me, but nope - at least not yet!

This is an excellent point! And considering the friend in question owns multiple cats and works at a cat sanctuary, any one of them might have been the one to text me back! 😆

A friend of mine has informed me I need to apologize to him, with treats, for implying that the shot I wanted could possibly have been better than the pic he's graced me with.

Jurisdictions are weird where we're at. We're effectively in a part of the city, but the area we're in is jurisdictionally county rather than city and I want to say that affects some of the ordinances. In any case, they asked us first if we minded and I was like, not at all please do get goats! 🙂

Oh, that is an uphill battle for Ruby! Fingers crossed for her, I'm sure with your help she can do it. ❤️ (And thank you!)

I've had a few people ask! But no; a coworker at the shelter named her "Chester" and then changed it to "Chessie." I kept it bc I like it, and bc that's what I used to call the Cheshire Cat. :)

She spent late fall/beginning of winter in the shelter, and then when I brought her back here it was too cold to have her outside for a few weeks. I think she initially came into the shelter in late November or so.

It's taking some extra time because we keep having cold snaps here. She doesn't have a winter coat, so I've been pulling her inside when it's too cold for her. Eventually she'll join the other TNR/porch cats for real, she's just still in her initial assimilation period - hence the dog crate outside.

After a couple months of trying, shelter stress started making her very sick and she stopped eating for a while. She's still not really an indoor cat, and we can't have more anyway due to a senior kitty who is DONE with new friends. But we CAN assimilate her into our TNR kitties!

For the curious, Chessie is a special case. She came into the shelter around 2m old, VERY feral, but couldn't be TNR'd back home. I tried to socialize her and she ended up really liking me, but couldn't get adopted even as a barn cat bc still scared/reactive with most humans. We tried! (con)

They got bored pretty quickly so that part was fine. She was unsure about Inside, but I stayed with her until she was more comfortable. I'm effectively her anchorpoint, and she still has her old bed in there. I also never deep cleaned the kennel just in case this happened, so still smells like her.

I'm not worried about the other TNR cats - they're adults and also still have their winter coats. Chessie never got a chance to grow her winter coat since she was at the shelter for so long, so I worry more about her when the temp dips too far.

We learned he is missing an incisor, which I don't remember if that was found while he was at the shelter or not - it's not like we did dental xrays there. And, fingers crossed, his actual teeth look fine. Hopefully this clears up the gingivitis and he'll be doing much better now.

Full disclosure: She tried to bite me right after I took this. I had to export this frame from the blur of motion my camera actually captured at the time. 😅

I'd have considered it myself, except most of the work is outside and I can't even with South Carolina heat in the summer. I'd pass out and be useless.

Yes, I know the one you're talking about and that would be so cool! I want to say this one has around 130 cats right now, some free roaming and some not. The people who work and volunteer there are absolute angels - one of my favorite coworkers transferred out there last year. ❤️
