Council accused of ignoring its own safety audit over controversial changes to layout of roundabout on key cycling route

Sensible suggestion from Cllr Hannah Hoechner: Heavy SUVs cause more air pollution, road danger and damage to roads and pavements than smaller cars. To make our streets safer and our towns and cities cleaner, they should pay for the damage they cause (£). www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/2490844...

Changes at Colney Lane make junction more dangerous for cycling www.norwichcyclingcampaign.org/changes-at-c... Now that parts of the junction are nearing completion we can see just how dangerous these changes are for anyone not in a car. Peter Silburn takes a detailed look

I had a look at this with @thetallbikeguy.bsky.social before Xmas while being built, and it has turned out to be as bad as we thought it would be. A negligent piece of design.

Unsurprising, but disappointing none the less, that Norfolk County Council voted down a motion in invest in cycling. www.edp24.co.uk/news/2489187...

"Removing" the Holt Road connecting path now covered by the Evening News. Worth pointing out that the path doesn’t “cut through the allotments”, it’s simply re-instating a path that was already there (that runs alongside the allotments). www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/2487192...

E-bikes are a great way to get around, but illegal modification turns them into unsafe electric motorbikes and the police are doing a good job of enforcing against this practice. Along with antisocial drivers illegally blocking pedestrian use of.. (1/3) www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/2488311...

Sad news from Cycling In A Skirt (sharing here for those who have left Twitter) After months of gruelling treatment Helen has sadly reached the end of the road in her battle against cancer, and is receiving end of life care at a hospice.

🤷‍♂️ Maybe they burnt the Christmas Turkey and threw it out in frustration? Either way, not cool. I’ve reported to the Council to get this picked up!

Who knew? Norwich had a Gent-style circulation plan back in 1969! Just think what a great city centre we'd have now if it had been carried out.

Two days after the consultation closes and Cllr Gurney says she's got the connecting path to Bush Road "removed from the proposal". We've asked Norfolk CC for the results of the consultation. Let's see what the public actually wants. www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/2480608...

Following our successful campaign, the Holt Road scheme went back to the drawing board. www.edp24.co.uk/news/2476229...

absolutely and utterly furious, there's now no redeeming features about this government whatsoever

This is terrible news. Of all of them she was by far the best. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

We need to admit that Norwich has a car problem and it's hurting the economy.

I'm just not convinced that this sign getting the job done.

👊 This is what community in action looks like. Last night residents from across #ThorpeHamlet braved the cold to discuss a plan for making the roads in our area safer for our kids. @liamcalvert.bsky.social also attended to talk through the complexities of parking and traffic enforcement.

Thank you to the wonderful people of Thorpe Hamlet and @thamletjosh.bsky.social who let me talk about parking regs and highway law at length last night. There are clearly a lot of people who would like to see solutions to their local traffic problems and we are keen to help them.

Good evening Norwich. Thanks to Peter of @norwichcycling.bsky.social for the afternoon looking at old and new infrastructure. Having a cuppa before wandering over to their AGM where I'm giving a talk called "not invented here". Lots of ideas *already* delivered in the city!

It seems writing to me about walkable communities is too hot for our council email system to handle. Which is fair. Walkable communities are super sexy.

As part of the lingering culture wars around roads. Cllr Plant of Norfolk County Council decided to make this bus lane 7am-7pm rather than 24hr. Drove that way last night. How many drivers taking advantage of the is new "freedom"? Zero

A cultural thing

Why is Norwich City Council so reliant on temp staff? The council now spends around 20% of the wage budget via agencies, compared to around 6% at other nearby councils. Total temp staff spend has gone from £1.5 million to £5.1 in 4 years. Norwich Labour needs to get a grip

Out-of-town shopping is totally reliant on car use. And yet... ✔️Low speed limits ✔️Raised crossings ✔️Bollard protected footways Why can't we do this in cities?
