everyone: wow being a librarian is so cool you just get to read books all day your local librarian: today I had to break up a knife fight in the encyclopedia section

Given the general awfulness of things it’s really nice to have multiple nights a week to look forward to new TV and turn off the brain for a couple hours

It’s been a long time since I’ve been addicted to a weekly show the way I am with The Pitt. Love the characters, love the tension, the scene by scene problem solving, the losses, the wins… 20 years of this show, please.

“The odd American idea that giving money to political campaigns is free speech means that the very rich have for more speech, and so in effect far more voting power, than other citizens” (2017, Snyder, p. 30). Reading On Tyranny 7 years after it was written feels grim.

Some of us read that article by his first wife and had no need of further questions.

TOMORROW (WED): Rallies are being held across the country to protest the funding cuts to science and the illegal firing of federal workers. Please join if you can. We need to show that many people oppose these destructive attacks on science and healthcare. Details: labor4highered.org

Musty 🤝🏻 Poilievre

Me in 1999: “That South Park movie was wacky, imagining an American imperialism so deranged that they decide to invade Canada in a crusade of censorship. 😂” Me in 2025: 😐

The oral history of Weekend Update, if you’re into that sort of thing. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/15/a...

Tom Sandoval during that challenge. #TraitorsUS

Google has just removed Pride Month and Black History Month from the calendar app. This comes as they obeyed Trump by changing the Gulf of Mexico’s name to “Gulf of America.” L

I just lost my job, along with most of my coworkers, due to the illegal grant freeze. I worked at an organization that -helped veterans who have lost a limb -Assisted elderly and disabled people -Helped hospitals better treat people who have lost limbs

Is it just me, or is giving a shit about other people considered far left now?

DIANA ROSS I LOVE YOU

CBC's wall-to-wall coverage of this crisis is another great example of why we should value Canada's public broadcaster

I finally got my hands on Wellness after a long anticipated wait…. and wow, was it worth it. Nathan Hill has absolutely blown me away again with his writing.

I remember being a kid in the 90s and my mom CONSTANTLY listening to The Woman in Me and Come on Over. She got to see Shania Twain last night in Vegas and I’m just so happy for her.

All Los Angeles Public Library locations are providing free N95 masks. Libraries are essential!

I can’t wait each week between traitors (US) new episodes. Debating which international franchise to start first!

A vote for Pierre Poilievre is a vote for racism, hatred, misogyny, against every woman’s right to decide what happens to her body, and for embracing the ideals that are destroying the U.S. He is simply a revolting, attention seeking little man with zero redeeming qualities.

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters of the last tv show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who is coming to save you?

Officially finishing the year at 168 books. I read some incredible fiction this year but many of the standouts of 2024 were non-fiction, particularly memoirs:

I crushed my week end goal with 2.5 days to spare. Perhaps I can even fit in 4 more books to end the year at 170….

Partner had never seen my childhood favourite Charade (1963). That movie gets better with time: the score, the pacing, the quick dialogue, the costumes, the opening credits… I could go on forever about how perfect it is.

The vehicle in Aliens (1986) looks suspiciously like a cyber truck

Team Costco.

With 7 more days in 2024 do I: rewatch seasons 5-7 of 30 Rock before they are removed from streaming, OR read 4 more books to finish on a nice even number of 170 for the year.
