The power of children’s books by Katherine Rundell.Reading is effortful and maybe not as immediate as online media. As a school librarian, I’m fighting for my students to discover the joy of great books

A gloomy Sunday morning here. Some housework, watching football and a little school prep for tomorrow

Good morning to all and wishing you a very happy Boxing Day. Whatever you’re doing today, take time to relax and recharge if you can

Gavin and Stacey. Our last night with our friends and it was perfection.

Crying happy tears at the old and young folk on the tv. What a cracking idea.

For all those who miss loved ones.

This sums it up, yes.

Had a lovely Christmas get together with long-time friends yesterday. No phones. No photos. Just conversation and laughter.

Indeed it is!

Thinking about this chicken wing joint where I used to live called “Lord of the Wings." They had a sign in the window that said "Fry, you fools!" and they closed years ago but their top notch food punnery lives forever through me.

The Disney cards we bought come with these stickers 🥳

The internet is trying to sell me these and oh boy despite never having being on an expedition in my life I really want to buy them.

When it’s blowing a gale outside the best place to be is on top of the radiator next to the settee #Caturday

Baileys in a beaker. Love my trips to the salon.

No ‘plain Jane’ here 🤣

All quiet here in the East Midlands

Cat: You don't understand, you must let me out into the world, I yearn to be free and unfettered by domesticity Same cat five minutes later: WHY DID YOU BANISH ME TO THE FROZEN REALMS OF THE OUTER WORLD THERE IS NOTHING BUT A WASTELAND THERE HOW DARE YOU SIR

(Literally) hanging on the radiator

A personal favorite. The older I get, the more poignant it becomes...

Ladybird Artists Advent Calendar, window 1 ‘Winter Village’ Artist: Ronald Lampitt

Battled through the Christmas shoppers yesterday to get some stuff. Today is a day of rest and relaxation. Except if you’re @bowshaw65.bsky.social , who had a date with the outside Christmas lights 😇

If you are still on the other platform, why not quickly pop over and find me and enter EduAdvent Day 1. A great prize up for grabs today!

Happy #Caturday from Mabel, who likes to lie half on the radiator

It’s a slow start on BlueSky for me. Been on a week and no likes. Perhaps it’s because I keep blocking all the slime balls who slide straight into my DMs?

Loving these little biographies. Thank you @petersbooks.bsky.social

A new collection of graphic novels to add to the shelves. I know lots of students who are going to love these.

Just thinking (dreaming) how it would be wonderful if there was some kind of national campaign to support mid-list authors. Those that have been working tirelessly hard on their book projects for years… Readers might learn of new names and not the over promoted celebrities…

Too many people haven’t touched a book since they graduated high school and it shows.

Give me a like if you enjoyed Wolf Hall last night 🥳

Our Trust has just completed another Pupil Reading Survey and I’m going through the results for my school. There’s a lot to do and as the Library Manager I feel like it starts and ends with me. Am I up to the task? Wouldn’t be working in schools if I didn’t like a challenge!

@pam07buck.bsky.social So glad to see you’re on here!

Good morning Blueskiers 🤩 A busy week in school for me. Reading for Pleasure lessons are in full swing and intervention has begun for those who need support. I also have a few new books to process. Wishing everyone a great week!

I had the best time at our trust Reading Network Day. Great to see so many passionate colleagues and expertise in the room. #liftschools
