One of my favorite historical fiction novels is Yellow Wife. It’s fairly short but packs an incredible punch. IMO it’s criminally underrated.

Unfortunately the cover gives off a VERY different vibe than the actual book. This story centers around thirteen years olds who are kidnapped and then have their hearts ripped out. Surprisingly enough, the blurb on the book mentions NOTHING about that either. 😏
