20 poems to reflect on, day ten: The Winter Nosegay by William Cowper. Something older today, from a favorite poet of Jane Austen. #poetrysky #poem #cowper #austen

I read about half this book yesterday and have enjoyed the writing style. I work to read books more slowly these days instead of burning through them, so it'll be nice to pick up again later. #BookSky #BotM

20 poems to reflect on, day nine: You can say a lot with just a few words, sometimes. #poetrysky #poem

20 poems to reflect on, day 8: a bit of something for Valentine's Day, that I enjoyed writing during my Essential Worker days. #poetrysky #poem #battlingmetaphorsprobably

New favorite so far.

20 poems to reflect on, day seven: Wild Geese by Mary Oliver. #poetrysky #poem

View from my balcony. #snow #cincinnati

20 poems to reflect on, day six: The Aim Was Song, by Robert Frost, first published in 1921. #poetrysky #poem

20 poems to reflect on, day five: Something different. I ran across this while searching for a sonnet I thought to share. A rambling thought I never quite got together, from late 2022. It's kind of blousy, but I might tackle it again sometime. The heavy text is done in annoyance. :-)

20 poems to reflect on, day four: Her Kind by Anne Sexton, published in 1960.

20 poems to reflect on, day three: Unmade Beds by Charles Simic, from Night Picnic, published in 2001

20 poems to reflect on, day two: this one is not exactly uplifting, but has been on my mind for a few weeks. #poetrysky #poem

20 poems to reflect on, day one: Human Family by Maya Angelou begins: I note the obvious differences in the human family. Some of us are serious, some thrive on comedy. Some declare their lives are lived as true profundity, and others claim they really live the real reality. #poetrysky #poem

My #botm box arrived yesterday. I treated myself to extra before finding a hole in my budget that will be haunting me for a couple months.¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So I hope I enjoy them all! I've been wanting to read the Towles book for awhile. #booksky

I have had a really tough time lately, but feel compelled to share beautiful things online instead of misery, so here are pieces from two cakes I've made this year.

I'm reading The Last Murder at the End of the World by Stuart Turton, which the library recommended. It's pretty interesting and it seems the author and I have consumed all the same dystopian pop culture, which is not a bad thing. I've enjoyed a couple good twists so far, will finish today. #booksky

History, despite its wrenching pain Cannot be unlived, but if faced With courage, need not be lived again. —Maya Angelou speaking at President Clinton's 1993 Inauguration.

Some interesting things to reflect on for today. Remember to keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.

Being naturally concerned about where things are headed, I've been distracting myself with 1970s TV advertising and British Pathé travelogues on YouTube. Tonight I ran across this video about early phonograph recordings, and, enjoying the narrative, feel it offers some good life perspective.

"Diane, I'm holding in my hand a small box of chocolate bunnies."

There is always a little birdhouse in my soul.

It's way cold here today, currently 7ºF, which is -14ºC (am bilingual in most measurement forms,) and I don't love this for me. But it is sunny out, which is a big deal here in the Land of Grey Winter, and we get to have sunset about half an hour later than at the solstice, which is comforting.

I resubscribed to Audible this summer, mostly I just have a good-sized library from a few years back. #AudibleStats #JulietStevenson (is the best)

It's not that I can't realize this was 30 years ago, or that a lot of my favorite music is 35-45 years old. I think I don't quite grasp how these spans seem so long, in our lives so short, though it's possible I mean it the other way round. 30 years is nothing, yet almost half my life.

This is my favorite thing today.

Everything is terrible, or at least it feels like it. As such, it's more important than ever to take some time for yourself. Remember to do something you enjoy, something that makes you smile, even if no one else understands why it gives you joy. You owe yourself your mental health.

New book just arrived, different type for me, but it's good to branch out now and then. #booksky #BookOfTheMonth

This is one of my favorite places I've been in the whole world (which for me is about half the states and bits of a couple provinces, so) >>>

It seems to me that we're in a sort of liminal space in time, and it feels like a loop we aren't able to move past or through; my metaphor might break apart if I go further. Today, the snow outside has the look of a quiet forever, but of course that's just nature on pause for awhile as well.
