A doctor’s impassioned defense of later abortions

Y’all her rendition of Creep by Radiohead is heavenly. Please listen to her just blow it out of the earth. 🥰🥰🥰

Pō mārie, e te whānau. Our MPs are heading home tonight. Their suspensions may silence them in the House, but not in the movement. Aroha nui to the kaimahi who stand behind them every step, & to every supporter who amplifies their voice outside the chamber. We are unapologetically whānau. #NZPol

‘There are only male humans and female humans’ Is a belief. It’s not based on fact. Intersex people exist and are born every day. Their numbers are greater than most realise, as surgery on intersex infants is still extremely common. People need to own up to this being a belief.

Now I’m not advocating anything here: but if you go to prison for demanding your MP pressure their government to stop one of the 21st century’s darkest incidents, you can see why some people might make conclusions about what alternative courses of actions to take are

Gold standard: fast-track mining project must pass environmental audit Hyperbolic cheerleading by ministers about the alleged benefits of mining have no place in the independent statutory process. It requires both an economic cost-benefit analysis and an assessment of environmental effects. #nzpol

Today someone told me I’m “wasting my life” by continuing to speak out about ableism, eugenics & healthcare access. The life that I had is over. My chronic illnesses have left me bed bound. Advocacy saved my life. It gave me purpose. It helps others. That will never be a waste.

In his stellar kōrero today @rawiriwaititimp.bsky.social mentioned the words of 1 of our tīpuna whom the crown silenced; wrongly tried, convicted & executed. If you've not come across it before perhaps you'd like to hear the story of our Te Whakatōhea rangatira Mokomoko www.rnz.co.nz/programmes/s...

Arena Williams: this House belongs to the people, and it must reflect the voices and communities it serves. That includes Māori.

Just to contrast with today's shitfuckery in Parliament, a little story that made me happy. My wife (an immigrant for whom English is a 2nd language) met with a couple of her migrant pals for lunch. One of them is doing doing a Te Reo course. So she was asked what she had learnt so far. 1/2

A partisan majority forcing a matter of privilege with no support from across the house - when support *was* available if they'd been open to a very reasonable compromise - to impose a penalty orders of magnitude worse than anything the NZ Parliament has seen sets an incredibly grim precedent.

Imagine: the day the @tepaatimaori.bsky.social leaders return to the house, >6531 people gathering in Parliament grounds and performing the biggest and noisiest haka ever, getting it AND the reason for it into the Guinness Book of Records. 'Ka mate' would be symbolic and it's best-known. I'd be in.

The most upsetting thing in today’s debate, for both Mr and me, was the oft espoused idea that if TPM had apologised and shown contrition the penalty would not have been so high. To which we both say Fuck that shit! They have nothing to apologise for. #nzpol

really feels like this country is in a bad place when the government can weaponise a process that's meant to be apolitical to attack their political rivals and get away with it. #nzpol

Breakthrough in search for HIV cure leaves researchers ‘overwhelmed’

Parliament agreeing such a disproportionate punishment by such a thin majority is a thousand times more contemptuous than TPM momentarily disrupting proceedings to take a stand. Disgraceful. #nzpol

Shame on you all. Shame.

Is anyone in the Press Gallery going to ask the Prime Minister why the hell he was totally unaware a senior staffer had a government-issue work phone seized by Police or why? #nzpol www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

Well what happened today in Parliament makes complete sense when you realize bullying and subjugating Māori was core tenet of the coalition agreement. Every policy every budget decision leads back to that.

Oooh! How exciting! A pyramidal orchid, Anacamptis pyramidalis, has taken up residence in my front garden! #WildflowerHour #Botany #SciComm #Nature #UK

Performing a haka in Parliament more disreputable than getting drunk and heckling an artist on a freebie you got for being a Minister is it? Worse than laying hands on a staff member is it? Worse than Winston's caustic racism in the House today, is it? Get fucked.

So you can say this, and it is fine, but you can't do a Haka. Right-O. Racism A-OK in the house.

Chloe Swarbrick: govt handwring about the waste of parliamentary time is bullshit. It's their own fault. Get a grip. Denounces the punitive and partisan nonsense of the committee report, and calls on the house to reject it.

Like the Deputy Police Cmmr who was forced to resign, I think people knew that Michael Forbes was creepy. He wasn’t hiding his real self from everyone. Male abuse of females gets a free pass because misogny is so embedded it doesn’t raise a red flag. “women don’t feel safe but his work’s all good”

The continued Privileges debate is at 3pm ❤️🤍🖤 Everyone’s fixated on punishment length, privilege, civility The haka wasn’t the problem, it was the spark🔥 It moved people here & around the world.l Unapologetically Māori. Unapologetically tangata Te Tiriti That’s what liberation looks like #NZPol

Sex work is "real" work. Sex workers are "real" workers - and are entitled to the same freedom from abuse, harassment and exploitation as everyone else. This is only as controversial, or weird and awkward, as we all choose to make it. Pass it on. #nzpol
