conceptually, jeff vandermeer’s southern reach trilogy is a huge influence across much of my sci-fi & horror illustration work. the sense of dematerializing into your surroundings, or one thing becoming another becoming a third entirely new and incomprehensible thing.

i built this composition off of canova’s psyche revived by cupid’s kiss, as well as millais’ ophelia. key elements my client wanted included were - a vulture, guts, and a range of bugs.
