Barnes & Noble in Georgetown with a stark “Bohemian Rhapsody”-referencing book display this weekend.

Queer Anishinaabe scholar, writer, & commentator from the Eabametoong First Nation, Riley Yesno, captures what I was getting at in terms of Canadian nationalism being worrisome for folx from various marginalized groups, so if you are a settler, you should read this! 👀 www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

While there is a lot to say about this image, the thing that stands out to me the most - what IMO makes genAI a specifically right wing phenomenon - is the craving for approval. It is not enough to be able to generate robot lingerie warrior lady. They NEED to also be praised for doing it.

Seems like a good time to remind us about how bad a Prime Minister Stephen Harper was, and how bad he’s been since losing, putting all his energy into championing extreme right wing autocrats around the world, including Trump/MAGA. Harper was campaigning with Poilievre yesterday. Two peas in a pod.

At this point calling it anything softer than defiance is just inaccurate.

Insane investigative reporting by @bryanranderson.bsky.social on the purge of legitimate votes in the endless North Carolina State Supreme Court election. There is now clear evidence that longtime NC voters are about to have their ballots wrongfully thrown out. www.theassemblync.com/politics/nc-...

This is especially bullshit when it comes to trans rights, considering everything the right complains about (trans women playing in women’s sports, kids receiving puberty blockers and hormonal treatment, people using restrooms as they see fit) was NOT brand new, but was in fact the status quo

This is the key point. Democrats were never campaigning on promoting trans rights: Republicans were campaigning to reverse them. There were no groups on the left pushing this as a vote-winner. The choice was between whether to push back or cede the ground and allow trans people to be brutalized.

i think about this photo a lot

@gregcasar.bsky.social: "Elon Musk gets $8 million a day in federal government contracts and subsidies. $65 a day is how much your average senior gets on Social Security just to barely survive on after working their entire life."

Crucial point made here — we should learn from others rather than imagine that everything is new and therefore shocking and impossible to resist. www.newyorker.com/news/the-wee...

THREAD: The Trump administration's DOJ has removed a study from the NIJ website that found that immigrants, and particularly undocumented immigrants, commit crimes at significantly lower rates than U.S. citizens. The study is at odds with the Trump regime's propaganda about immigrants & crime. (1)

The problem is, none of this is breaking through to ‘regular’ low-information people. If we don’t figure out how to do that quickly, I’m not sure we have a chance to stop this momentum.

Speaking of RI and free trade, every year my neighborhood has a parade and burns a tariff enforcement vessel in effigy to celebrate the seizing of the royal revenue sloop HMS Gaspee in 1772. Just sayin'

Superb essay. Once it's recognized that the Trump administration is thoroughly fascist in its aspirations, it's easy to understand why "working together with Trump where possible" means facilitating the fascist mission. It's a path to self-destruction.

Bring back *everyone* who was sent from the U.S. to CECOT in El Salvador. *No one* should be sent there. ALL their rights were violated. ALL of them should come home.

People always leave out the Black lady who made Pilates as popular a practice as it is today (Kathleen Grant).

We watched people standing in line for 8-10 hours to vote in Georgia, so they made it illegal to give them water. They called in bomb threats to majority Black polling places. They did everything they could to suppress the vote. And then folks are out here like, "well Georgia voted for this lol"

In this #OpEd, a youth climate activist talks about how the climate movement’s message often fails to land with workers.

On the other hand, it's killing a lot of people.

Even if your candidate isnt going to be AOC my bit of advice is this: Pick the candidate you like, not the candidate you think is acceptable to some mythical swathe of the public. Stop playing fantasy political operative and just go with your gut. In both parties that has been the winning way.

i wish they'd stop asking me to believe this dude is healthy

At the very least this is a MASSIVE HIPAA violation and RFK Jr should be investigated for the unlawful release of a child’s private health information. Any physician would get fired and sued if they did this.

It’s moments like these when we might consider it relevant that the current FBI director who might be charged with investigating this crime appeared eight times on the podcast of Stew Peters, a Christian Nationalist who recently called for a “final solution” to America’s “Jewish problem.”

Why doesn't msm call the arson attack on Gov. Shapiro an attenpted assassination?

lmao, every single day, some hopeful retail trader thinks "okay, maybe he'll stop doing this" and clicks buy, only to have him go ACTUALLY, NO, I MEANT IT, AND FUCK YOU WHILE I'M AT IT by the next day

I keep puzzling over how Rubio thinks it'll bring PROSPERITY to kidnap gay hairdressers based on their tattoos & then pay $20K/year to detain them in a slave camp. We could have spent that $6M on supporting trade with Congo instead, but Rubio has decided torture is better for profits?
