Muzzling the press is never good for the sake of a democracy.

If you care about a free press, the restriction and handpicking who gets access to White House should be a red flag. www.pbs.org/newshour/pol...

U.S. schools remain segregated, even after the Supreme Court ruled in 1954 that public school segregation is unconstitutional. What role does school choice play? ewa.org/educated-rep... #education #schoolchoice 📷 James Minichello for EWA

Congratulations to our four #4ContsFigure medalists. 👏

Sixty five years ago, four African American college students from Greensboro, NC did a sit-in at Woolworths. Their protest to integrate the lunch counter led to more civil rights protests. Today I toured the museum inside Woolworths. This history is forever important to learn.

In the last three weeks, I wrote a 14,500 word draft for what I thought was a magazine piece. Trimmed it to around 8800 and sent it to my editor. Given state of the world, was told appetite would be for a shorter feature. Trimmed it to closer to 3000. I feel like I've written three pieces now.

I mean, we couldn’t be more unbothered that Google Calendar doesn’t “recognize” #BlackHistoryMonth anymore. Black history is still happening. We'll be chilling with these books by @anneliseorleck1.bsky.social and others. ✌🏽 @colemanthe2nd.bsky.social

To think, just a year ago, we were celebrating the @frontlinepbs.bsky.social documentary winning the Oscar for shining a light on Russia's war on Ukraine. This film is so important to see right now. www.ap.org/media-center...

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine appealed to the Trump administration on Wednesday to respect the truth and avoid disinformation in discussing the war that began with a Russian invasion of his country, in his first response to Trump’s suggestion that Ukraine started the war. nyti.ms/4gNBP2h

I'm stating the obvious but this is so not good for a free press.

I'll be giving a talk this Fri. at Temple Emanuel in Greensboro, NC on teaching about religion in public schools. Please help pass the word along to #educators, #teachers, #parents, #scholars in Greensboro area. They can register here to attend: rb.gy/3coi39 @publicedworks.bsky.social

More than a decade ago, I profiled Ellery Schempp, whose homeroom protest against required Bible readings led to the landmark 1963 Abington v. Schempp SCOTUS ruling. Idaho is making this old @theatlantic.com story topical. www.theatlantic.com/national/arc...

In 1956, Ellery Schempp protested Pennsylvania's Bible reading law in homeroom. He leafed through a Koran. His family sued and won in 1963. SCOTUS declared Bible readings unconstitutional.

Ripped from the headlines ... Unreal.

Today was day one of revising, cutting a long term writing project. I cut 3,000 words. Can I trim 3,000 more tomorrow? #amwriting #journalismmatters

Covering the ‘Mad King’: Is the press underplaying or overplaying Trump’s early moves? By Jon Allsop. www.cjr.org/the_media_to...

“Where did my dad come from?” That was a key question that drove Omo Moses to write his family memoir, THE WHITE PERIL. Bob Moses was a civil rights legend. Omo wanted to know the man behind the legend. #BlackHistoryMonth

Fifteen measles cases — mostly in school-aged children — have been confirmed in a small county in West Texas with one of the highest rates of vaccine exemptions in the state.

I just finished #WeWouldNever by Tova Mirvis after attending her launch @newtonvillebooks.bsky.social last week. I could not put this psychological thriller down. It launches nationwide this week. Want a gripping, stellar read? This is it!

A must read for journalists!

Such a beautiful, sensitive story that features Tina Noyes, our son's first private coach and a dear friend. Yes, skate on and remember those lost their lives with love and compassion.

Please help support the loved ones of the skaters, coaches and parents who died in the plane crash last week. See the post below from @usfigureskating.bsky.social .

This @nytimes.com article so captures life for young competitive skaters. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/30/u...

Kiah was set to join our faculty at Howard Law School in the Fall. She was a dedicated, brilliant civil rights lawyer poised to make a powerful difference in our world. Our hearts are broken & we pray for her family & friends. www.kwch.com/2025/01/30/c...

In the skating community, whether you're a skater mom or skater dad, a skater or a coach, you so quickly become like family with the others you meet. My heart goes out to all of those who have lost a loved one and to our family's beloved skating community in Boston and beyond.

This is a terrific read in @theconversation.com . theconversation.com/how-christia...

Thanks Daphne of @icedancecom.bsky.social for taking such beautiful photos of our ice dancing son and his partner at last week's @usfigureskating.bsky.social championships! Congrats to them and their fellow novice dance competitors for wowing us all with their grace and poise.

Finally made headway on a piece today. Amazing how the words flow better when you try to think of it in sections instead of one big piece. #amwriting

Day one photos (Novice PDs & Junior RD) are now posted on IDC! Day two photos are coming. photos2.ice-dance.com/2024-25/25USN/

SCOTUS announces it will hear whether or not LGBTQ inclusive education is unconstitutional. Not great for LGBTQ people, and could be disastrous to teaching that we have a history and have existed alongside everyone else for centuries.

Today is the start of the novice ice dance competition at @usfigureskating.bsky.social championships! So proud of our son Simon and his ice dance partner Annie for making it here! They've had a great 1st season. They compete tonight and tomorrow. Livestreamed @usfigureskating.bsky.social YouTube

OPINION: ABC’s award-winning show "Abbot Elementary" offers a model for how to make room for religious and cultural differences at the holidays.

This was a terrific oped on how a tv show's school tries to be inclusive on December rather than make it all about one religion's holiday. Educate, rather than celebrate, would be the ideal.

Author Joan Leegant wrote eloquently in today's @globeopinion.bsky.social section about the backlash against Jewish authors in the literary world.

The first night of Hanukkah begins on Christmas this year, but this is not the most religious time of year for Jews. I opined on the phrase 'holiday season' a few years ago for @cogwbur.bsky.social . There's never a single holiday season that fits all. www.wbur.org/cognoscenti/... #religiousliteracy
