There are a lot of questions in our inbox these days about data (and payment) security at the IRS, the Social Security Administration and other places, with teenagers and 20-somethings rooting around in the systems. Back up everything, for any numbers of reasons. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/14/b...

With blatant attack on science and global development - we as scientists have a few choices. Either we crawl in a corner or we forge ahead & keep executing based on our value system. Don’t have time to be depressed - communities need us most urgently now! kingcenter.stanford.edu/events/stude...

In The Dispatch, Hoover senior fellow @mcfaulmike.bsky.social argues that Trump's policies—weakening alliances, cutting aid, disrupting trade, proposing ineffective defense projects, and abandoning democratic ideals—are giving China and Russia an edge in Cold War 2.0. thedispatch.com/article/trum...

President Trump's purge at the Pentagon is a major step toward creating an officer corps personally and absolutely loyal to him, @radiofreetom.bsky.social writes. theatln.tc/V6pB4qcF

Booze chugging Hegseth and notorious TFG (the felon grifter) chose to fire CQ Brown just in time for Black History Month.

“I’m in West Virginia — My insulin went from $6 to $80”

General Charles Q. Brown Jr., Faithfully and Honorably served the Constitution and The People of the US for 41-years in the USAF. His last posting was as the 21st Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was unjustly fired by the dangerously unqualified SECDEF. I proudly stand with Gen. Brown.

Interesting to see these big name universities absolutely crumble and cave — halting admissions, altering faculty labs’ websites, and basically being a bunch of collaborators. Almost like that’s what they were really about all along. Almost like those billions in endowments aren’t for education.

Dear @cnn.com, The judge did not “vacate” the trial. He adjourned it. Then he appointed an amicus curiae to argue against dismissing the charges. Who writes your headlines?

Seems legit.... We don't want to be a nation of underachieving Americans.

So the President not only fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. He also fired the top JAGs at the Army, Navy and Air Force. Those are the lead people who determine what is a legal order and what is not. So if you're planning to do things that are illegal they're the most obvious obstacle.

I’m telling you @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social, please watch this. This is the energy. Not egg prices and book tours and strongly worded letters. It’s time to take the gloves off.

My office is hearing reports that the Trump administration’s purges include firing veterans who have served our country for years. Our veterans deserve better. If you've been impacted, call congress: (202) 224-3121 And share your story: www.veterans.senate.gov/contact-rank...

How do you link a government official to an anonymous social media account that asserts, among other things, that "America is a White nation?" Like this. www.texasobserver.org/ice-prosecut...

Two DOGE workers are now at CISA (DHS Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) I've confirmed. Edward Coristine, the 19-yr-old known as Big Balls, and Kyle Schutt, a 37-yr-old software engineer. Marisa Kabas (bsky.app/profile/mari...) was first to report about Coristine. My piece for Wired

It’s interesting and maybe scary to see where axes are falling with precision and where they fall indiscriminately. These appear to be targeted offings, intended to preserve and wield the power of the agency. Many other layoffs are the opposite, bureaucratic monkey-wrenching.

They stopped funding the nation’s largest child protection organization

And then there's the issue of what lack of staff can mean for sensitive ecosystems protected by the national park system.

Remember when America had friends? Like a month ago?

Standing up to the authoritarian wave requires more than cheerleading for democracy; it demands making democratic societies more participatory, responsive, and adaptable at all levels, from local to national, in response to the societal shifts driven by the Internet over the past 15 years.

The USPS is the only government agency mandated by the Constitution. Once it is gone there is nothing left to stop the shredding of the Constitution and setting fire to the remains in the fireplace of the Oval. The USPS moves 47% of the world's mail daily. Imagine the world disruption this causes.

A storm of news is coming out of Washington today! Trump Expected to Take Control of USPS, Fire Postal Board, the Washington Post Reports! #Thisiswhywefight #Bluecrew #Resistance #Resist www.usnews.com/news/top-new...

5 years ago when DeJoy was dismantling USPS we suspected he was planning to privatize it. Now, Trump states that is exactly what he plans to do. Ben Franklin proposed a postal service as a way to make the mail available to all, a quaint concept under this authoritarian regime.

🚨🚨ANOTHER TRUMP ATTACK ON VETERANS! The Postal Service is one of the largest employers of Veterans in the country. Hundreds of thousands of Veterans rely on USPS to deliver medications, benefits, and critical information. We WILL fight this! MORE: www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

Mark my words—He is going to try to shut down mail-in voting. When he does, we will sue and we will win. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

The Senate just voted on a simple idea: If you make $1 BILLION in a year, you don't deserve a tax handout. Democrats voted yes. Republicans voted no. Republicans are planning huge tax cuts for the rich, but they’re not the ones who need a break — working people do.

This is how Mitch McConnell should be remembered: Without him, there’s no President Trump right now—he had the chance to convict during impeachment and end it, but he didn’t. Without him, there’s no stacked conservative Supreme Court—you’d have more rights today.

People need to understand this: Trump did not leave office willingly the first time. If his health holds up, he will not leave office willingly this time. He is not joking about serving more than two terms.

How many federal workers would DOGE need to fire to make up for Musk not paying his fair share of taxes? Answer: 677,000. That's 44% of the entire non-DoD federal workforce. Again, this power grab is not about the budget. It’s about politics.

Three updates: 1. The Justice Department has deleted a database tracking federal police misconduct. The database was first proposed in 2020 following the police killing of George Floyd.

One of my best friends and coworkers was told he’s most likely going to be laid off tomorrow because he’s a probationary employee He’s only probationary because he’s a veteran hire and they have a 2 yr rather than 1 yr period He’s the highest performing person here This is so fucking stupid
