We are nearing a precipice.

“The thing that I can’t get over is that the actual richest man in the world directed my fucking firing. I make $50k a year and work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer.”

Neo-Nazi terrorist and convicted mass murderer Anders Breivik, who killed 77 people in Norway in 2011, cited this same Napoleon quote in his manifesto.

Two excellent and unrelated developments today, summarized in two pictures. 1) a revised book manuscript back to the production team at Norton; 2) a lucky entrance by lottery to the Canyon de Chelly ultra marathon this October! 55k - nbd.

Glad to be included alongside @natboundunbound.bsky.social in the article published by @typewriterninja.bsky.social at @usatoday.com on the history of Indigenous enslavement and the two projects chronicling this phenomenon www.usatoday.com/story/news/n...

Millions of indigenous people were enslaved in the Americas, including the United States. Most were women and children, in contrast with the African slave trade -- and evidence suggests such practices lingered into the 20th century. Two projects aim to tell the story. My article from @usatoday.com.

Grateful for this excellent coverage of the @stolenrelations.bsky.social ns.bsky.social and the @natboundunbound.bsky.social projects. @browncds.bsky.social @brownhist.bsky.social @brownhist.bsky.social www.usatoday.com/story/news/n...

All I can really say at this point is if everyone isn't watching how trans people have lost basic rights and protections on a scale that hasn't been seen in decades in the span of 72 hours and realizing that even if you aren't trans there's nothing stopping it from happening to you, you're a fool

If you are 1) a federal civil servant/contractor ordered not to release scheduled data or reports, or 2) an academic who has lost access to government data in the past week ...please get in touch. I'm happy to keep our conversations confidential. crampell[@]washpost[dot]com

Deb Haaland, the country's first indigenous cabinet secretary, used her term at the Interior Department to make what activists say is irreversible impact in recognizing the painful history of the government's treatment Native Americans.

Remarkable clarity from George Stephanopoulos www.mediaite.com/politics/geo...

Happy to finally see this hit the shelves! With thanks to my co-editors and our Narragansett readers -- I think we've managed to present a more complicated and complicit Roger Williams through his letters and publications. #indigenous #earlyamerica #rhodeisland

It has been the greatest honor of my career to write a Foreword for the Harv Law Rev. I am grateful to be able to tell this story and tell it from the heart in such a prominent forum. As always, I dream of a day when words can change minds and hearts—and worlds: harvardlawreview.org/wp-content/u...
