The space and structure at a #WritingRetreat let you quiet other voices/demands on your time and energy so you can focus on writing, product and process. THAT'S the magic of a retreat—permission to work on your text without distraction & with support over 1-3 days. #SocialWriting #StructuredWriting

Another answer: crafting an academic text is a cognitively complex task requiring thought, skill & time. But your text is one task in a larger system of doing & being (employment, family, health). It's no surprise that writing can be overwhelming! This is why structure & company at a retreat help.

Many people do better at developing and sustaining their yoga practice with the help of a trained instructor, in a space that's equipped for it and with fellow students to learn with and from. The same is true for your writing practice. You get a boost when you write alongside others at a retreat.

Ouch! Hope they get you sorted soon. But so glad you're in good hands while you wait.

If you'd like to test this out at one of my online structured writing retreats, two are coming your way: —March 20-21 —April 14-15 www.linguaverse.net/writing-retr... #AcWri #StructuredWriting #SocialWriting #SystematicRevision 4/4

Systematic revision requires sustained focus, critical engagement, consideration of options and troubleshooting, elements that align very nicely with the structure of a facilitated writing retreat and the opportunity to reflect on revision with peers. linguaverse.wordpress.com/2025/03/07/t... 3/4

Thorough revision isn't —reading your text from start to finish x-many times, making changes as you go Thorough revision is —working from a reader or editor view (i.e. w/ critical distance) —having time to work over multiple passes —following a systematic approach, checking feature by feature 2/4

Oh yes, another excellent option! I may take that one up myself then, as my work has shifted quite a lot since I last took your planning class.

🦋 In keeping w/the Bender Rule*: facilitation & most discussion are in English, but your text can be in any language. Pair discussion can be in other languages when enough speakers are present. I can help those who prefer to speak in Spanish or French as needed. * en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_M...

Academic writers aren't the only ones who attend my retreats; other writers are welcome, as text type is but one part of the writing equation. 🦋 Anyone serious about moving a writing project ahead will benefit from the retreat structure & support of other writers. #StructuredWriting #SocialWriting

I write too, though my main task is to hold the space and maintain the structure. 🦋 The best part of facilitating is seeing how satisfied everyone is at the end, not only because of our output gains but because of what we've (re)learned about writing & ourselves as writers. ✍️ [5/6] #SocialWriting

Each session follows a 3-part structure: set goals, write, track output/observe/learn/recalibrate. 🦋 Writing together under this structure over 2 or 3 retreat days boosts commitment, keeps you on task and provides valuable peer support and incidental learning along the way. [4/6] #SocialWriting

Everyone brings a writing project (any topic/language) to our shared space and we write within a structure that helps us focus on a set of specific tasks and make measurable progress. 🦋 Retreaters always report writing more than they thought and with more satisfaction. [3/6] #StructuredWriting

One way to reduce some of the demand & isolation of #AcWri is to work over repeated writing sessions within a writing retreat framework alongside other writers & a trained facilitator such yours truly. 🦋 But not everyone can attend in-person retreats, so I run mine online. [2/6] #StructuredWriting

Writers working in any language are welcome! Facilitation and most discussion is in English, but I can help Spanish and French speakers in those languages as needed.

I offer solidarity rates for those who cannot afford the standard rate. If you need it, use it, no questions asked.

Writing in an environment that is structured/facilitated, social and writer-centered lets you: + make more progress than you would alone, quantity- and quality-wise + stay focused on your writing & work through blocks + learn about yourself as a body that writes + interact with other writers [2/3]
