Collective Cold War assistance required! While we're carrying out some maintenance in the ops room we noticed the acronym S.P.O.A. on one of the panels, but what it stands for seems to be a mystery - even to those who served in the room - and it's doubtful it's Single Point Of Access. Any ideas?

The existence of Max Hastings implies the existence of a Min Hastings, and quite possibly an Average Hastings somewhere in the middle.

Ugh. I do not recommend norovirus / gastric flu / whatever awful thing I’ve had to anyone. It’s been 6 days and I still haven’t dared reintroduce dairy yet … 😬 But I have managed plain porridge, toast, banana, and pasta. Not all at once, mind. So that’s progress.

Congratulations, Wendy!

As a kid watching Red Dawn in the 80s, I definitely though the Russian takeover of the US would involve at least *some* tanks

I don’t know if I have norovirus or what, but it’s definitely unpleasantly similar … haven’t eaten since Monday and I can only just keep fluids down 🤢

It has been a busy and eventful weekend, and if I’m honest I could do with another weekend to recover 🤣 But we got to see some interesting machinery, and it was good. I’ll post some pics soon …

We're expecting the #Vulcan & #Wessex (amongst others) to be on the #NAMopenCockpit rota today! www.newarkairmuseum.org/NAM_open_coc... #EveryNAMvisitCounts

Why is this not on every UK news channel this morning?

Absolutely this. We all know the big stuff, infrastructure, energy etc. will deliver a better future, however, for many vulnerable to the Deform propaganda, the bread & butter issues of housing, GP and dentist access, buses and 'It was all better long ago' messages are vital political areas to fix.

🔴The Five Questions Nigel Farage is Never Asked About Brexit, Trump and Russia As the media endlessly provides the Reform Leader with a prominent platform, Peter Jukes considers all the concerning lines of enquiry that journalists never confront him with bylinetimes.com/2024/06/19/t...

"The idea that a political leader couldn’t today tell us ‘I don’t know’ is one too many people don’t even have in their heads. "

Despite what the press tells us, the government is very busy, often doing popular things. But you wouldn’t know it from the press coverage eastangliabylines.co.uk/politics/gov...

The world is on fire and Kemi Badenoch is giving a speech to a Tory think tank in which she says that "as the world becomes more complicated" it is "pronouns and DEI" that are "the real poison in our society". Sunak has given full support to Starmer on Ukraine. She still has not responded.

Hi All, just sent out my weekend update, free as always. This is arguably the most momentous week in European history since 1991 or even 1945. The US pivoted this week to be a friend of dictators who is forcing unilateral concessions on democracies. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

The Department of Government Efficiency isn't interested in efficiency. Or transparency, or cutting costs. It's real goal is to destroy the federal civil service. In other words, regime change. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

We’re looking for some help to try & identify the following tinted (?) #aircraft window screen(?) that has resurfaced from the depths of our ‘deep-store’ – it has no identification markings & we’re struggling a bit! As best we can tell it was donated to us in the late 1960s!

That's more like it....

The most important thread you'll read today. In brief: Europe has the power to save Ukraine and slip into the leadership position America has vacated. It must grasp it. And Europeans must pressure their governments to do so.

At least the Death Star's vulnerability was as sophisticated as a thermal exhaust port.

Fancy some midweek reading? Here’s a Battle of Britain short story I wrote several years ago, after a visit to Biggin Hill. “Pilot Officer Joe Eglinton never felt the blow that tipped his hat into his lap. …” www.lindsayrumbold.com/blog/watch-your-back-a-ww2-short-story #WritingCommunity

Today has been a busy day. Tackled admin, cleaned, changed bedlinen, and even got to catch up with a friend I haven’t seen for literally years. And Book 2 is bubbling away in my hindbrain. I can feel it 😆

During WW2 the US army needed over 750,000 typewriters to keep things functioning across all theatres. The need was so great they requisitioned civilian typewriters and created a national shortage. Typewriter repair units were seen as critical army personel. I'll do a thread on it at some point.

We’ve just started a “no screens” rule during evening meals, replacing it with a podcast. Young Mr R is (perhaps unsurprisingly, given me) a huge fan of history - are there any good history podcasts aimed at children? At the moment, I choose for him …

Evening Standard profiling Farage as celeb/personality/icon to watch. He told it he's creating a "vetting department" so Reform doesnt "get caught again with lunatics & maniacs" But didn't answer Byline Times when asked why he was pictured with far-right activists Established press doesn't learn

"Celebrated human rights lawyer's hubby to make Broadway debut" Nah. That wouldn't happen. Would it.

The Dickin Medal is the highest award that can be issued to animals in British military service. Bearing the words "We Also Serve" it has been awarded 75 times since its creation in 1943. Only one cat has ever received the award. This is the story of Able Seacat Simon, of HMS Amethyst. 🧵 1/25

Authors, if you see this, it’s a sign to post the first line of your book. “Yellow earthmovers, splashed grubby brown, clanked under fitful autumn sunshine.” - Banshee #BookSky #WritingCommunity

If you don’t want history to be re-written please share this video widely - because the only way to stop that happening is to constantly call this boll**** out with the actual facts

Not only have I been slow in considering my New Year writing goals, I’ve also been slow in sharing my blog about them 🤦🏻‍♀️ #writing #writersky #writingcommunity www.lindsayrumbold.com/blog/a-belat...

It's smaller than I expected, tbh

Many thanks to soon-to-be fellow Resolute Books author John Stevens for his review of Banshee: “… Banshee plunges us back into the tensions of the Cold War era … the sense of intrigue and jeopardy in Banshee builds inexorably from start to finish.” #booksky www.unlessaseed.com/blog/book-re...

Hi all, I'm trying to grow my account here but it seems to have ground to a halt. If you know anyone who would like or be interested in my artwork please point them in this direction. Any help in growing my account will be appreciated. #art #carart

A very interesting, and timely, article. Well worth a read.

Some thoughts on the VERY basic aspects of writing a book, like the Westland Lysander (because that's what I'm doing). Questions? Thoughts? Read the post before replying though, please! vintageaerowriter.wordpress.com/2025/01/26/l...

I am NOT good at sewing. Yet this week, I have: - repaired the knee on Young Mr R’s Beaver uniform trousers. - sewn a wheelarch back onto Young Mr R’s cuddly Scania 770S. - stitched the pocket back onto my dressing gown after YEARS of it half falling off. That’s enough sewing until 2026 … 😆
