Thought experiment: what if someone took an LLM and made a compiler that takes input English prose (like a novel) and then outputs code that represents the content? So the characters are variables, chapters are functions, etc. 🤔

Wow, a private company just landed a spacecraft on the moon and it captured some gorgeous pictures of it. youtu.be/NpHhEybJdxg?...

There are three more days to get one of these exclusive prints from @theguardian.com- www.guardianprintshop.com/pages/current-print-drops

Every time someone adds me on LinkedIn, I panic and think : "Oh no, what does my LinkedIn profile say I do? It's probably still that silly thing I put in."

Day 16 of Season 24/25. After years of wanting to ride Geto Kogen, finally got to do it. This place got 17m of snow this season (not all of it still here). It did not disappoint.

I drew the cover for this week's @newyorker.com

Good reminder of art as refuge on the cover of this week’s New Yorker

I wonder, if we all think Facebook and Instagram is listening to us on the phones, why we not all uninstalling those apps? 🤔

I just realized there is a gap in the market for an app that tells you where Mt Fuji is, and then draws an AR version of it if a building is obstructing the view.

In a surprising turn of events, a closed Japanese ski resort is reopening after three years! youtu.be/XJaSY9ZHdBw?...

I bought a pen that has an extra life.

Yesterday, I made a working Gemini backed web crawler working specifically to check snow conditions around Japan. It uses a Browserless docker instance for fetching, screenshotting and then processing using Gemini Flash. So far it's cost me ¥4 of inference costs.

Back from my first snow trip for this season, filmed a few runs on my Insta360 only to discover the videos show up on the device, but are not visible on the SD card. Reddit search shows many posts with similar issues but with no real solution. So I rolled up my digital sleeves ...

So, unreal engine or real engine?

Just finished Exit 8 for the first time after hours of trying. What an eerily accurate depiction of a Tokyo subway station from hell. Clean and immaculate and frustratingly disorientating.

Playing Exit 8. I got to the 8th exit and that's as far as it goes? I have no idea what the hell is happening.

Let's spend time talking about our lunches and things like that rather than how our minds are too fragile to handle three social networks. You guys forgotten about the time we messaged people on ICQ AIM MSN or Jabber?

The snow season in Japan just suddenly started. I have to restart my side project again :)

Red season is go!

Foursquare just open sourced their 100 million place point of interest dataset! Some notes on poking around with it using DuckDB (it's Parquet files on S3) simonwillison.net/2024/Nov/20/...

Unable to explain:

Not many people realize that I reprogrammed myself to wake up at 5:30am everyday two years ago for my job -- just so I could do it from Tokyo. It's been wonderful.

My book, Kissa by Kissa, is coming out in Japanese this week! We're having a big launch party up in Morioka on Saturday (23rd), the governor of Iwate is giving a speech (!!), and we'll have great music and coffee. Links to buy tickets / the book are here: craigmod.com/books/kissa_...

Shibuya on Saturday is a madhouse.

We're like social network nomads wondering the desert encountering an oasis to stay in and then realize it was a mirage.

I'm still paralysed by the choice of which text-based social network to post my throw away hot takes.

My cartoon for this week’s Guardian Books.
