All the analyses of Kendrick Lamar's Halftime performance belie all the talk about illiteracy and anti-intellectualism. The fact that we're dissecting metaphors, visual representations, patterns, and social studies from 13 minutes of material speaks to broader ideas of education. So much to learn!

As we see these images of people crying at the border after the asylum system shut down, it is again worth considering how indescribably desperate a person must feel to travel with their children through the desert, across the water, or through the Darien Gap simply for the *possibility* of safety.

I believe that making sure your classroom is a safe, welcoming place for all your students tomorrow as a teacher is a non-negotiable at this point. Start there and then keep going.

DEI is not gone just because they disband a funky lil program or department. Keep breathing life into inclusion and equity. We have to stop waiting for “them” to give us permission to see the humanity in others.

On this Dr. King holiday, in the midst of all we're seeing now, we must know: The leadership we seek isn't coming from on high. It's not gonna look the same or sound the same as days past. Different challenges call for different leaders. The leadership we seek is already among us and within us.
