Quite literally my first thought when they unveiled the PS5. What were they thinking
comment in response to

On the positive end, it was definitely one of the most emotionally effective games. Playing through Joel’s death was a perfectly translated experience. And it’s hard to imagine the more fragile moments being any more effective (guitar, museum, last flashback)
I have very mixed feelings

My biggest critique of the game was that it felt like a sermon that they tried to craft everything else around
I personally didn’t buy Ellie’s journey. Esp the final act - it didn’t feel true to her character. But I think the same could be said of the narrative structure & gameplay itself

So, again, you’re assuming too much. I’m referring to the discourse of people around me (physically). Other than that, I’ve heard several podcasts briefly touch on it
As far as my internet exposure, it’s just been silence. Which is in stark contrast to the passion I heard surrounding season 1

Well, you’re assuming I’m looking at all. I’m not. I’m going off the discourse around me. Which I think is the normal way to gauge the general reaction

Is the second season strongly debated? I haven’t heard anyone say they liked it

Finding it’s not too difficult. It’s everything you have to do after that’s tough. It’s not something you can just find and watch (like YouTube)

The discourse around this game is so divided. Half the people I follow absolutely love this game and the other half just tear it to shreds. It’s not my style of game, so I’m not tempted to check it out. But I’m entrigued by the passion

I was willing to buy it just because it’s in my top 3 games of all time. But I almost never buy digital and want to own the games I buy. I’m not keen on losing a game down the road bc these companies go out of business / shut down the servers / sell off the ip, etc
comment in response to

As a complete aside, Hitman was one of the only games I bought. It was, for me, the most exciting announcement.
The fact that it was a game key card did take a lot of the wind out of my sails though. I was hoping the Switch would cause them to better integrate their online model with offline play

I think there’s a large audience that wants to OWN the product they buy. Yes
I also think Nintendo’s physical sells are much higher because they have a much more casual audience in general (ie people who are more likely to buy a game off the shelf on a whim)
comment in response to

Cyberpunk is on the same level as Street Fighter 6, which did not sell well because it’s a game key card
comment in response to
post
Just to be clear, none of these third party offerings are new releases of a AAA scale. That’s not especially relevant
comment in response to
post
Nintendo’s audience is one of the few that still is split between physical and digital sales (about 50/50). When you alienate half your audience, what do you expect?
comment in response to
post
Do you have data to back that up? Cause I think you’re way off
comment in response to
post
The T-Rex demo was free I’m assuming and isn’t comparable
While I do think the biggest factor for these games not selling is because they are mostly old ports that already had a niche audience, the game key card essentially removes the entire purpose of owning a physical cartridge
comment in response to
post
You think collectors are a niche audience that won’t sway the numbers much, but you think people that want a high end game that shows off the system’s capabilities (for no reason beyond that) has more of an effect?
comment in response to
post
Cyberpunk sold really well. And as someone whose collection is almost purely physical, the game key card is a major turn off.

Haha. I’m actually enjoying it. Had zero interest in the free roam, but I’ve found myself playing it a decent amount. And I think it’s gonna be the main mode my nephew plays
But he’s 4, so he might have shit taste. I have no excuse

You always do beautiful work. I really love this one. Beautiful coloring. Incredibly imaginative.
I often struggle with imagining the bird-like nature of larger dinosaurs. This absolutely feels grounded in that reality, while maintaining the awe and wonder I felt as a child

I’m curious to see the general public reaction. How well does it sell? How quickly do people drop off?
This strips everything I love about FromSoft and adds a whole bunch I don’t like (the necessity to play multiplayer, randomized roguelike…)
It’s a hard no for me. But I knew that upon reveal

Good catch! Didn’t even know Target was doing a partnership program like Amazon

It’s possible they’re playing around with dynamic pricing structures?

Try this. It was specifically advertised to me through the Target app. There are a couple other games that weee questionable (not sure if Princess Peach was full priced $60)

Target. They’re advertising up to 50% off games and this one caught my eye. They have a used copy set at $60

As a US citizen, I just want to say sorry. I wish I could say what’s happening isn’t a reflection of my country, but only a small minority of leaders… but that’s not true. It’s at the very least a reflection of half my country.
I hope this is just a very small momentary blip for you. But I’m sorry

I heard CD Projekt Red had a deal with Nintendo, where they were helping with the cost of the cartridge. If so, wondering if Marvelous has a similar deal, esp since Daemon X Machina started as a Switch exclusive. I also think DxM isn’t popular enough for them to risk a high price point
comment in response to

Sorry, got it.
Yea. I’m a little surprised that most companies aren’t doing $70. Maybe it’s just bc they’re older ports at this point
comment in response to
post
To be clear, most Nintendo’s stuff is $80. They’ve artificially raised the price on Kirby, Mario Party & Tears
They couldn’t justify it with BotW (since it’s cheaper and getting the same upgrade as Tears). And DK is too experimental to risk the sells. It’s not just MK - they’re pushing for $80

Not a fan of Nintendo’s legal practices. But in this case, I agree. It’s corporate theft

I mean, 2/3 the planet is considered third world, where both have failed. And we know that housing won’t get better until we actually build more housing - that one is primarily a supply and demand issue
