I'm always so disappointed when I find out that poetry community spaces would rather uplift writers who are also serial predators, rapists, and abusers than part ways with them, but never surprised after all this time. I really just don't get it.

i swear to god if i have survived the shit i have survived only to die (in any number of ways) at the hands of the meanest idiots in the world i will be SO MAD

hello world, I'm still looking for stable comms consultant work but as a journalist and editor have done many types of work! I'd also be open to full and part time roles if they pay a real living wage. I'm just trying to make ends meet right now (aka afford groceries): literelly.com

A man detained at the Rikers Island jail complex died in custody Wednesday morning, marking the first detainee death so far this year. The city Department of Correction said it was still investigating the death and identified the man as 38-year-old Ramel Powell gothamist.com/news/rikers-...

I just spent all last year applying to jobs, trying to get to stability, and the main org I started work for just had huge budget cuts. I am out of work again. I'm spinning right now looking for work again—if you can contribute in the meantime, v*nmo: ellybelle / CA: ebelle

Fuck, and I cannot say this loudly and repeatedly enough, this. I am so fucking tired of getting a 'buy our AI shit/here's some AI shit you didn't ask for' taking over literally every single thing I open, every time I open it.

I know they’re going to do this kind of thing a million times a week and it’s going to be exhausting, guard your energy and use it to care for people consistently instead of every time they create another emergency.

Thoughts and prayers to Democrats who think the party that committed genocide for 16 months is suddenly now going to resist fascism.

A key part of DEI's flimsiness is that it is an industry where "who" can fill those roles is too broad and undefined to be sustainable, let alone effective, long term.

I am tired of spending money and energy trying to get more of my poetry published, the system is fucked, and high school me was correct that zines and publishing on Tumblr is the way to go. I don't care about fancy lit mags, I care about people engaging with my art, everything else is distraction.

Please, y'all. Get off Substack. They have proved time and time again that they're a right-wing media company, not a neutral newsletter service provider. "The current number one History Substack is Martyr Made by Daryl Cooper, a Holocaust revisionist..." www.thehandbasket.co/p/substack-a...

I completely understand why getting on public benefits last year during unemployment was so hard now, generative AI can [redacted] me.

I'm finding out the hard way that scheduling interviews for a documentary with people who don't live in your state/city is somehow a whole lot easier than scheduling with people who literally live down the street or an hour's subway commute from you and I would like to know... WHY?

I had a conversation with a friend yesterday for the documentary I'm making and I think it gave me galaxy brain realizing that I've been a part of a really specific and special part of history with regards to queer and trans visibility and rights, and I don't often think of myself that way.

South Sudan announces social media ban to start later on 23 January. The move follows violent protests in South Sudan about killings of South Sudanese people in Wad Medani, Sudan. Some killings.”, apparently of civilians, were captured on video. abcnews.go.com/Internationa...

"A stark and sobering statistic." More than one million people have fled the war in Sudan to seek refuge in neighbouring South Sudan, according to the UN. #freesudan Read more: aje.io/sbjbs4

I'm reupping this because it's the right thing to do but also there's been a real issue with people coming to this site and evading everything about Palestine and people's needs there. I know you want a "safe space" on the internet but the genocide is ongoing, please don't ignore it.

In 1953, Eisenhower signed an order banning queer people from working in the government. Agencies encouraged employees to report colleagues they suspected of being queer based on how they acted, spoke, dressed, or had masculine/feminine characteristics like wide jaws in women or small hands in men

update: it was fine and my ability to still be good at my job asking questions and putting ideas together even without sleep and running on pure hope and spite is unmatched, even in this economy

stop platforming the panic posters

TODAY: We’re expecting a House vote on the Laken Riley Act, a dangerous bill that would shred constitutional rights and let MAGA extremists gut legal immigration. 48 House Democrats recently voted for this bill, so we really need you to call your representative ASAP: indivisible.org/resource/tel...

I used to work on communications for the CDC, and it was already incredibly difficult to get information out to the public and there was so much red tape to go through, so making it essentially illegal to get info out to the public is... quite a choice. Fascists don't want you to have information.

I barely got sleep last night because my heat wasn't working and it was zero degrees, and blankets and heat tech clothing can only do so much, and you're telling me I now have to go be a journalist out in the world and make my brain work? IN THIS ECONOMY?

Passports didn't have a gender marker before 1978 when the UN made them mandatory because of "the rise of unisex fashion and hairstyles." Removing them would require a change in rules from the UN's International Civic Aviation Organization.

oh boy that fucking sucks. noted!

I keep hearing "well they can't do that" and I can only say that under martial law, living in a fascist police state, those in power can and will do whatever they want, so you should get it out of your head that "the laws" will protect you from anything. The Law is an invention of empire.

I grew up very aware of anti-Asian racism in the US, especially in California, for long and boring reasons, and I was VERY aware of the internment camps in WWII. I remember being genuinely astounded when I got to college and many classmates had never heard of them. This history is poorly covered!

I'm truly astonished, though maybe I shouldn't be, about the sheer number of people (mostly white) I am having to give pep talks to and instructions about how to not comply with fascism, it feels really basic to me, AND YET.

Keep your eyes on Palestine, from the river to the sea.

I have found that the best way to trudge through dystopia is to take it one hour at a time, always have pre-made coffee ready, allow myself to be as weird as possible, and listen to a lot of good music on my cassettes and CDs. I guess in that regard I'm kind of like the lesbian Star-Lord.

memo to self: acting as an information filtration system, taking in the constant raw stream of garbage and trying to put out something useful that makes sense, will require periodic maintenance downtime to clean the filters

I saw this on TikTok but I had to go see it for myself. The White House website, translated into Spanish—gone. And they’ve replaced the Home button with the words “Go Home.” www.whitehouse.gov/es/

I appreciate that some trans people want to feel validated etc, but I'm right there with Jude. Some of us just want to be cryptids.

I love how many of you reached out to me to ask if I've ever considered I'm autistic. I have been diagnosed autistic my whole life, and used to talk about it a lot more online but just don't feel the need to most of the time now but genuinely thanks for clocking me I love it.
