Now that all the snow has melted there’s a lot to do. Miss Squish was kinda enough to rummage through everything to double check that no snacks were accidentally being discarded. She may not have ears but that nose still works and no snacks will be missed!

Our good friend, Mackenzie, came back to spend an extended weekend helping out around the sanctuary! She got to get extra hands on helping give Neil meds and hold him still while I did an exam and cleaned him up. (I was laying on the floor under Neil when I snapped this) Thank you for all your help!

Everyone loves snuffle mat enrichment, especially Helen! We’ve been utilizing snuffle mats with chickens for several years to provide enrichment and promote natural behavior while indoors. While diet and medical care are crucial parts of sanctuary, so is healthy mental and physical stimulation!

While today may be national pig day, here it’s even more special because it’s Winston’s rescueversary!!! 6 years ago today, unknowingly on national pig day, we welcomed our very first pig. ❤️🐽❤️

Happy Friday!

Everyone please join us in wishing Molly a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! 🥳🎉 She is the definition of kindness, selflessness, and compassion. And even though this pic is a few years old I think it sums her up perfectly. We would be lost without her! Happy Birthday, Molly!

Oliver normally gets his breakfast soaked in water, but today we decided to switch it up and do half in a snuffle mat. Because pigs are so intelligent they can get bored easily. Offering enrichment is key to happy pigs, especially during the winter months when they aren’t spending much time outside.

Happy Valentine’s Day! 💘

Did you know that Russell (second from left) and Fiona (far right) are Grammy’s (far left) kids? They all came from a rescue turned hoarding/neglect situation, but one of the upsides to social media was we were able to go back and dig through posts to find history on the goats who came from there.

We’re all soaking up the sunshine today, cause starting tomorrow we are getting hit with a snowstorm that will bring potentially our biggest snowfall of the season so far. Fingers crossed the system shifts and we don’t see that much! Dreaming of spring 💭 🌱 ☀️

We let some of the Little Woods pigs place their bets on who is going to be the Super Bowl LIX winner! Ethan, Alexander, and Oliver have made their predictions! Who are you rooting for?

This is not a fun and exciting post, but it’s important! We have been going through significantly more hay than normal this winter due to the cold and snow. We are lucky to have access to affordable good quality hay here and a bale runs $7, but even $1 helps!

While I’m not a big fan of winter/snow it does give the perfect backdrop for Maria and all her beauty!

Oliver’s new fascination is this unopened can of coffee. He was persistent in his efforts to remove it from the shelf every time I put it back. For 17 years old he is still an active mischievous boy!

Everyone is happy to have normal winter temps back after the past week. Today we are all the way up to 35! 😎 Perfect for the excessive amount of cleanup we have to do as things slowly melt.

Tried to get a cute pic of Squish enjoying the sunshine and tolerable temps, but she was more excited about the phone 🐽 The last four days have been close to if not the coldest we’ve seen with the sanctuary. We hit lows of -13° actual temp. Not including the windchill. 20° has never felt so good!

Lizzo is proof that goats are just different shaped puppies.

I can’t believe I am even having to type this. My heart hurts. Today we unexpectedly had to say goodbye to Amelia. To say we are heartbroken is an understatement. We are going to miss this face so incredibly much. There’s a big empty hole left behind without her here.

The title of this photo is “We don’t bite our friends on the head” One guess who bit who on the head.

We’ve been taking a little break from posting while we wrap up year end and giving ourselves some time to breathe. We gave some big plans and goals for the new year and we are excited to have you all along with us!

This year has been filled with challenges as an organization and as individuals. But we persevered thanks to you alla XO. Thank you all so much for another successful year of giving the animals the lives they deserve and making the world a better place. We wouldn’t be here without you!

Helen has been fulfilling her usual winter duty supervising the medical room. When it gets cold out she comes in to hangout for the winter. One of the perks of her being inside is getting to spend extra quality time hanging out with her!

We have been hard at work on the barn restoration/rebuild. Besides working around animal care we have also been navigating the shifting weather. But we are making progress! It may take a little longer doing everything ourselves, but we can stretch those donations a lot farther this way!

When the winter storm hit on Wednesday evening Amelia was refusing to go in her house so we immediately brought her in. Her arthritis is acting up and we’re dealing with some ongoing foot issues, so far now it’s rest, relaxation, and @pbs til she’s feeling better and the weather lets up.

YOU DID IT!!! That $6,300 doubled and is now $12,600 for the animals!!! 💜 We can’t thank you all enough. And a massive thank you to Melani for making this donor match fundraiser possible. 🙏 THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

ONLY $660 TO GO! We are creeping closer and closer to hitting our donor match! We are a little nervous, the final push is always the hardest part to fundraise. BUT we have faith in our community that we will hit that goal! Let’s do this!!!

We are getting closer to meeting our donor match! Only $1,100 more to go and we will turn $6,300 into $12,600 for the animals!! Every dollar helps get us there and every dollar is doubled! Please consider a contribution for the animals.

WE ARE ONLY $1600 AWAY FROM OUR DONOR MATCH GOAL! Can we make this fundraiser a success for Giving Tuesday? All donations are being matched dollar for dollar up to $6,300 thanks to our dear friend, Melani! Please consider a contribution for the animals and help us hit our goal!

Hey, Bluesk Peeps! Today is Giving Tuesday, the last day of our fundraiser for @littlewoods.bsky.social Anything you feel like giving to this small but powerful sanctuary I'll match dollar to dollar up to $6300. #animalsanctuary #givingTuesday #rescueAnimals #stopspeciesism

Yesterday I asked if we could hit the halfway mark, and you all said ok! We soared past halfway to 2/3 of our goal! Who thinks we can raise the remaining $2,180 to hit our goal by the end of the week? We can’t thank Melani enough for matching all donations dollar for dollar! Let’s hit that goal!

A lady on a mission to find some buried treasure! For reference Althea is 525 lbs and that hole is quite deep 😆

It’s bitter cold and we’ve been going nonstop between chores and working on the barn restoration. But there’s always time for some smooches from Frank! Don’t forget we have our donor match fundraiser running where our dear friend, Melani, is matching donations dollar for dollar up to $6,300!

We are grateful for all of the support this year, for the privilege to care for beautiful beings like Christopher and Jolene, and for every one of you who continues to make this all possible. When there is so much darkness in the world be the light, choose kindness.

In case you missed it in our stories yesterday, our sweet Billie girl had an accident and broke her horn. Her horn fractured Monday evening and we immediately addressed it with our vet. Yesterday morning our vet came to do a thorough exam and make a decision on how to treat the situation. Continued👇

Over the summer Neil managed to rip the callous off his chest. It would heal up and then he would scrape it open again. With it being in such a weird spot it made bandages impractical. So our vet had the idea to try a shirt with a pad stuck to the inside of the shirt.

We are 1/3 of the way to our goal in our donor match! Thank you all so much for continuing to support the animals and the work we do here. Currently all donations are being matched dollar for dollar by our dear friend, Melani.
