Photo bombed by a #hummingbird #bird while I was taking a much less interesting pic of a garden decoration. We have a baby over our front door, so maybe that is mom out for a quick snack before dark...

Now created 13 genre versions of my stream theme song "Genre Hero." They range from Glam Rock to Medieval to Psychedelic to Opera to Bossa Nova and Hyphy. The genres I love (glam rock, psychedelic) are really hard to work with. For, say, hyphy it's easier to say "done" than some desert rock...

Son graduates from USC next week, and I had not decided on a way to get to LA. The options in my mind were "plane at high cost and some extra danger" and "fix up Old Wanda enough for another 200+ mile trip." Then my partner said, "How about the train?" Choo choo MFers. Choo Choo. Amtrak here I come!

If you want to see the benefits of personalized diet and health care, just look at your average house cat or dog. Long lives, long lives with good health and function, less of a burden, etc etc. Tl/Dr: I want to be a cat.

This is a bigger mystery than anything going on in #Expedition33 ... I don't even get to know WHO is earning these things.

I have been informed I give better high fives than a certain pro baseball player, who also is known to give great high fives. #giants #baseball

I bought a single share of #Nvidia stock. I figure just looking at that each day will give me the state of the economy and AI.

Spot the deadly predator...

Alright chums, I hate to do this, but my march to 50 followers for #Twitch Affiliate status has reached a very exciting endgame! If any of you got the juices, I'd love to have you follow my action over at the linked twitch, and maybe take in a bit of #streaming! twitch.tv/cloudyeller

Ok then, who is with me that The Residence was much better than season 2 of Severance? Hmm? Hmm?

The best thing for streaming a co-op game? A bingo card! Come join me on #Twitch Saturdays, Tuesdays, and every morning!* * No Bingo rewards offered. I am 8 followers from Affiliate status where I can do real Bingo. HINT HINT. (that's www.twitch.tv/cloudyeller for your follower needs!)

Then there was the week that every Dyson Sphere Program fan on #Twitch watched my stream every day. All 5 of them were delightful viewers...

Sometimes I look at what I choose to do to be a better game designer and I wonder just how much medical and psychological research is "too much..." I can sum up the paper and point at its cites, but I ain't a doctor or even play one on TV.

"Would you like a grilled cheese?" Yes! What I get... Bread, Butter, Cheese, Dried Onions, Hot Honey. This is... a meal, and a beautiful thing to behold! #grilledcheese #bestlunch

It's a weird thing to see this in your save folder.

Next design stream on Tu/Thu is "How To Cook 10000 Eggs: Logistics in Games" ft. Dyson Sphere Program. Disappointed with Gamera Games' folks as I tried to engage with them at GDC, but do understand. We will cover how to get eggs, crack them, cook them, plate them, and then... now I'm hungry.

My Saturday stream is going to be either Heart of the Machine or Dyson Sphere Program. Anyone out in #twitch land want to help me with this conundrum?

Nooobody is wearing masks this year at #GDC. This isn't pandemic nonsense... Haven't these people heard of Con Crud? If you see me, put me on an ice floe. I've been to too many conventions... (Come say hi if that fits your vibe)

Hello #gamedev! Topic this week for my design stream is not "How to Avoid GDC FOMO" (but I considered it!) This week is "How To Teach A Player How To Juggle" -- game tutorialization. What is one single bullet point about tutorialization you consider critical to bring up?

A criminal mastermind has been looting our house in the middle of the night! Luckily it seems only leftover chicken has been taken this evening, but we must remain vigilant!

I love it when my newsreader pops up with "WBFG: Meteorites Land in northern Washington county." That is simultaneously a ton of info and none at all!

I got good response #gamedev for my stream about how designers use time (SUPERHOT/Outer Wilds). This week, it's how designers use distance. Do you have any good games for this? Traversal and optimization? Distant POIs, near detail... (Action) or deep time, (4x or big strat)? Curious what we get!

A game requires a currency to be played, and it is not dollars (or zlotys or whatnot). It is time -- literally the lifespan of a player. When a player gives feedback about a game, they are spending extra seconds of their only life to talk about your game. Also the haters, but focus on fans.

Hello chums, I could use your help #gamedev. I do a weekly scripted (lightly) stream on a different design topic every week. This week is "How Designers Use Time." I know what to say, but I still need to pick a game! Which one do you recommend for a "Time" discussion? #twitch

I was outside doing chores for one Behind The Bastards episode and the long-as-hell first chapter of Lucifer's Hammer.

I really despise LinkedIn after it became a social network rather than a professional contact service. That said, whenever I need to check my work record, I go there first -- after 20 years it is difficult to remember which year I did what!

If there is a punch card for game design disciplines, I've finally punched the whole card now that I am the technical designer on our project -- in addition to my other gigs (systems, economy, narrative integration, monetization, etc etc etc). I hope I can trade it in for a pizza or something.

Another day, another dollar... before taxes. Never has this meant more than when you're a contractor!

Balancing a game is like juggling with 1 ball, but you have three arms.

This week's topic for my scripted Twitch stream (Thursdays 7-9pm Pac) is "Game Balance" which is my professional focus. Because of that I have much more trepidation than all my previous streams about storytelling and narrative. The imposter syndrome by way of a Twitch stream with 20 viewers...

In the last two games I've worked on I felt compelled to explain that gold/coins/money isn't really the right look for games about friendship/relationships. The resistance is not about gameplay, it's the old adage "easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism"... in games.
