I GUESS I'm not really being fair because it's not seven times it's just the majority of the time and usually that scene is being used to illustrate some other point as well but like. yasha and dauber still have my heart

buuuut they're kind of driving themselves insane and their art is suffering because of their insistence on insulating it from the real world

so like they're pretty crazily self-contradictory and it mostly has to do with the idea that artists who want to be "serious" need to sell themselves to the ruling class in order to live, and that their art can be put in a neat little box away from the politics of that action

Yasha and Dauber got the closest for me because how self-aware yet joyfully complicit they are. pretty much everyone else is either coerced or forced into following the Misters but Yasha and Dauber are actively vying for their attention even though they hate their guts perhaps more than anyone

- periodically interspersing my reading of Brecht's Galileo with mindless brainrotting on Instagram Reels
- spending so long on qbreader that I learn how to mechanically recognize plot points from books I've never read
- lying in bed all day because my leg prevents me from walking long distances

or if it will get into the actual core of the story (fucked up family dynamics, the desperate need to be loved, the inherent toxicity of the "romantic hero")
