A kept journalist writing for a kept audience. "I discovered... mistakes happened – with unimaginable consequences. " That child-loss is accepted as every parent's worst nightmare contradicts the premise of adoption. Unimaginable consequences are my day-to-day lived experience. 🥚 #AdoptionAbolition

@adopteeson.bsky.social’s interview with @kit-myers.bsky.social is so good. Kit discusses what he calls the “emotional violence” of #adoption with such sensitivity. I highly recommend it.

#Adoptee here. The very idea of a registry of infant suppliers—of breeders for baby buyers—is fascism. Coercing people to relinquish to strangers the children they were forced to give birth to does not redress the injustice of forcing births; it compounds the injustice.

🥚This, 100%.

I’m tired of absorbing all the pain so that everyone else can feel okay. Adoptive parents want to be the most important. First fam wants to be assured they made the right choice to give you away. No one is actually receptive to hearing the unfiltered truth of the lived experience of the #adoptee 🥚

Introducing a powerful adoptee writer 🥚@mirellastoyanova.bsky.social — a moving sample of more to come. writeordiemag.com/elliptical-l...

“Fascism begins the moment a ruling class, fearing the people may use their political democracy to gain economic democracy, begins to destroy political democracy in order to retain its power of exploitation and special privilege.” — Tommy Douglas

Some of us pro-choice adoptees warned people they wanted to bring back a new Baby Scoop Era (google if you don't know) and that means only white Christian cishet married people get to adopt the forced birth babies.

If there’s anything we learn from the history of authoritarianism, it’s that once the authoritarian achieves small goals like purging the civil service & installing loyalists, they always just stop there and don’t go any further. Wait, hang on, I may not have read that book the whole way to the end.

“A power-mad president possessed of radical theories of executive authority and convinced of his own royal prerogative has given de facto control of most of the federal govt to one of the richest men on the planet…whose…interests are tangled up in those of rival govts and foreign autocracies”

Well. I did it. I submitted my book on the history of how the US government has removed Indigenous children from their families. From colonization to removal to boarding schools to today. For middle schoolers. I think it's the first book of its kind. I can't believe I got to do it.

Are any other adoptees irritated by pet parents, dog dads, or cat moms? I love animals, but casting yourself as the parent for a purchased pet is triggering. 🥚

What are the mediocrities going to do when they find out that “DEI” isn’t their problem? I’m curious.

Even though Tony shared this a year ago, it remains at the forefront of my mind. A big push/step of my "coming out of the fog" process. 🥚 🧵

This post from the other place by @notalegalrecord.net put words to my precise feelings for my daughters. Raised without any genetic mirrors, this realization hit hard enough for a screenshot. 🥚 #AdoptionIsTrauma #AbolishAdoption #adopteesky

“Who has a parade indoors?” — said in Bernie …

even if we could imagine a version of plenary #adoption that was free of coercion, fraud, and capitalist exploitation—which it has never been—there remains the fact that adoption, by design, alienates the adoptee from their entire family and identity without any possibility of their consent. +

If you're an adoptive parent contemplating writing a children's book about adoption, don't. You tend to write about the day you adopted your child, but that's not a story about adoption. It's a story about you. Let the adult adoptees write about adoption. It happened to us, not you. 🥚
