Don't post AI slop. And if you repost by mistake, as I've done, delete it. When you have something to say and attach AI art, you're undercutting your message and hurting artists. Pay or barter for art. There's a reason good things cost money and take time. AI art is harmful and it looks like ass.

what did Google mean by this

This is good.

Current mood.

Today I started moving news and politics follows into a Blue Sky list, so I can better control my exposure to upsetting, albeit important information. I want my main feed to be about community and joy. That’s where I’m grounded.

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

The awful news that Elon Musk clashed with a top Treasury official in an effort to access govt payment systems raises a crucial question: Did Trump authorize this, or not? I talked to former officials who explain why this is a key question, and why it's so alarming: newrepublic.com/article/1910...

A letter from Charles Schulz to a young person who asked him what it means to be a good citizen.

BREAKING: Philadelphia workers have won the first Whole Foods union under Amazon with UFCW. Since Amazon bought the chain, workers have lost benefits and felt the squeeze. Now they're fighting back against the multi-trillion dollar giant and hoping this win will be the first of many.

So happy Liz Climo is on Blue Sky! My wife and daughter are laughing over her latest book as I type. One day maybe we’ll even be able to agree on how to pronounce her name. @lizclimo.bsky.social

What's this about posting a duck? Here's one coming in hot. #birds

Pierce School demolition, Brookline MA.

Resurfacing this old wisdom imparted by a sage internet denizen of yore, as we embark on this new Bluesky journey together:

I want to share my experience today with Google support, trying to get Gemini (their AI/plagiarism machine) turned off in my Google workspace account. That account is where I personally do all my work communication—I am an editor, and most of my work contracts explicitly ban any use of Generative AI

This is true. Can verify.

Getting ready for the next four years.

this is incredible stuff. most state DOTs would spend tens of billions on highway expansions to try and see numbers like this (that wouldn’t even pan out anyway thanks to induced demand lol)

“The startup’s tagline, ‘Not owned by anybody,’ is a pointed reference to billionaire Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos and other moguls who, in Rubin’s view, have ‘bent the knee’ to President-elect Donald Trump.”

If you’re ever wondering why wildfire smoke is so bad for you it’s because it includes things like “an entire bicycle”

So glad that boschbot is active on Blue Sky.

My grandmother voting for Kamala Harris. Born 1918. 2 years old when the 19th Amendment was ratified. 47 when the Voting Rights Act secured her vote. Will turn 107 on inauguration day. She’s lived through it all, and she’s damn sure not going back.

OOOOOOOOF

Good morning lovely people! How are ya :0

When linguists say “Your command of language allows you to construct statements never before uttered in the history of humanity,” this is precisely what we’re talking about.

Yes. Don’t care if it makes me ignorant or a Luddite or just old and cranky. Don’t want. Go away.

Read it to the end.

You won't believe where this screed from James Woods goes.
