ALT: Young blonde woman nervously half-smiles and does a continuous "micronod" - as if you want to pacify someone by nodding in agreement but are afraid that a full nod would be one of the "sudden movements" you're supposed to avoid around the less-than-fully-hinged.
He’s also factually wrong, by the way. Mercury was genuinely in the “wrong” place according to Newton, not just appearing to be due to light ray distortion - because general relativity meant gravity worked slightly differently when it got that strong near the sun!
and also that screed is factual nonsense...special relativity e=mc^2 does not address space-time curvature, that would have to wait for the general theory which came later
Remember, these same people wanted college students shot for blocking the walkways on campus protesting war crimes. They thought it fine if old people died so they could keep going to Applebees without having to wear a mask piece of fabric over their face.
I have absolutely no context for this squirrel story that keeps popping up (I do not know or care. Do not tell me) but if this is the hill conservatives want to die on, go for it
Woods is wrong. He's conflating two different predictions of General Relativity, neither of which were driven by data. The precession of Mercury's orbit could have had other explanations.
The physics is nonsense too, the bending of light was predicted a century before Einstein (just without a formula), the problem with Mercury was related to excess orbit precession and not light bending, and it was solved by General Relativity while most of the text is about Special Relativity
Christ. I mean, it’s a sad story but this isn’t resonating as an election issue with any one outside that weirdo bubble. It’s a local public health decision and a reminder that it’s best to let wild animals remain wild. Sure, I guess Kamala is impinging on their right to die of rabies
“But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown.”
otoh it's good that the maga cult is suddenly concerned about supposedly over-aggressive law enforcement (although apparently only when LE is trying to stop the spread of disease)
I suspect he spewed this delusional fascist trumpery because autocorrect turned "MC squared" into "MC squirrel" & his Dunning-Kruger syndrome took hold of that random error & ran with it.
I live in Maga land and all the magas around here hate squirrels. They shoot them fairly often for getting in their gardens and eating the tomatoes. (TBF, the squirrels around here are sort of assholes.) I’m interested to see how this newfound squirrel love in the cult plays out down here.
This is the day that we finally recognize James Woods as a seer, a prophet, a wise man.
Then he’ll go right back to his full time job of being a kook and spreading false news on twitter.
Ah. The tyranny of this squirrel thing amplified whilst ignoring that the Trump/Kennedy ticket plans to ban Mayonnaise, Doritos, Mountain Dew, Children's Tylenol, vaseline, etc. Or the fact that women are dying now.
That was a lengthy lead up to "this is really why this squirrel thing matters."
Newton, Mercury (the planet) defied science until Einstein sorted it and this led to the pet squirrel capture and leftist tyranny. ??? I must be missing something.
dammit, I try to avoid james woods content at all costs because obviously he sucks but he makes me think of THE HARD WAY and Michael J. Fox rules and now I probably have to load up my blu-ray of THE HARD WAY simply because I saw this post.
he's not even right on the physics. He's conflating the anomalous precession of Mercury's orbit with the deflection of starlight measured in eclipse experiments. He appears to be very confused about pretty much everything.
I won't get caught dead on Twitter, at least as long as Musk still owns it, so I've only caught whiffs of the right wing freakout. But I'll bet my bottom dollar they're leaving out the part about the raccoon the guy took in. He had the squirrel for seven years (I think) without an issue before that.
Not that it doesn't suck. No one likes it. Squirrels are cute, and while they can be a rabies vector, it's pretty rare, especially if they've been a house pet for so long.
But raccoons are very often rabid here in Upstate New York. They're bigger and survive attacks which would kill a squirrel.
Oh yes. Preventing rabies is a horrible thing now. How dare they! We should all be free to die a horrible atrocious death via what might be the worst virus out there.
It's my god damned right! Give me rabies or give me death!
It's a very awful thing. Like a nightmare out of history and yet it's still around. We're just generally safe from it now. Although a kid died not long ago.
The cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy about this damn squirrel is just nuts. Police brutality, guns, execution, animal cruelty, government overreach, every angle is off the scale.
But this is still the weirdest thing I've seen, and that includes the Peanut Sacred Heart.
Thank you. This immediately pinged to me and I spent far longer than I should have making sure I was right before coming here to comment only to find yours 😊
My guess (BS, Caltech, '97) is that he confused two of the first tests that confirmed general relativity - the precession of Mercury's orbit, and the deflection of light by the Sun observed during the 1919 solar eclipse.
Where do you see poli-sci? It looks like he was pre-med, so more likely a bio or chem major
Anyway, MIT requires 2 semesters of physics for everybody regardless of major, which include optics and classical mechanics, both of which he gets wrong
the fact that peanut the squirrel has become some bizarre maga bugbear is so weird to me. like has anyone come out as pro- murdering that random dudes squirrel. does anyone like the squirrel murder.
So, this probably doesn’t need to be said, because it’s James Woods. But, speaking as a physicist who is familiar with the history of the ideas and insights that led to general relativity, all of this is absolutely wrong.
He'd fail both history and physics lessons with that one. I wouldn't expect many non-physicists to do much better with that but they'd score more highly on the not-being-a-racist-asshole test than Woods.

His point is also dumb regardless.
A+
Ugh
Wow
So is the squirrel mercury
What an absolute fool.
but I won't tell. because you said not to.
His "understanding" of the history of physics is abysmal as well.
Which brings me to my point. Certain states gutting public libraries has to be stopped. If we...

?????????????????
WHY IS MY FUCKING KINDLE NOT CHARGING!
GO BEARS!
as in, the actual bears
He has an interesting mind.
A drink
And a smoke
I'm destroyed by this post
Then he’ll go right back to his full time job of being a kook and spreading false news on twitter.
...made way more sense than this.
That was a lengthy lead up to "this is really why this squirrel thing matters."
Probably both.
But raccoons are very often rabid here in Upstate New York. They're bigger and survive attacks which would kill a squirrel.
Rabies prevention is science
The left supports science
Ergo...
It's my god damned right! Give me rabies or give me death!
Not 20%, 20 people in the history of mankind have survived.
"Zere vere fife peanuts valkin down der Strasse. Und vun vus assaulted. Peanut. Oh ho ho ho ho..."
“Back the blue!”
Police brutality, squirrel:
“This is horrible, how could leftists do this?!”
But this is still the weirdest thing I've seen, and that includes the Peanut Sacred Heart.
I'm afraid to read any further.
My husband is a physicist and he's explaining what he got wrong (he can't help himself...)

Anyway, MIT requires 2 semesters of physics for everybody regardless of major, which include optics and classical mechanics, both of which he gets wrong
Boon: I thought you were pre-med.
Woods: What's the difference?
I had no idea where it was going.. knew it wouldn't be good b/c James Woods, but did not expect that.
I envy the me of five minutes ago
what
They're taking the pets.
They're KILLING the squirrels, of the people that meme there
Go big or go home.
They're taking the pets.
They're KILLING the squirrels, of the people that meme there
Being unfamiliar with the guys politics, I assumed he was pivoting into ACAB territory...
Does he think that EITHER the HOA-pilled busybodies that reported them OR the pet cops that showed up are woke culture warriors?
It's ALWAYS projection.
Physics + Mars + Einstein + Raccoon + Squirrel = Lovecraftian Communist Horrors, of course, why not.
I'm sure he'd be first in line to turn in his lefty, hippy, tree hugging, squirrel and racoon loving neighbors. 🦝🐿️🔫
