These thoughts did come from book writing tbh

But also, I love being a SW elder at 44. I know aging is complicated, esp in this industry, but I'm just so grateful to be in this part of my life I couldn't have even imagined for myself when i was younger

It's honestly a decision i didn't make. Ive been outed so many times, and after a while you really can't do anything else.

thanks for thinking of me! It's weird, I can remember the writing that, but I can't for the life of me remember where it is

Thanks for writing this! I agree completely, and it is so frustrating! I also think it's about class - it's like sx wrk is one of those things where it's cool if rich people (or even middle class people) do it, but not when poor/working class people do

I know lawyers are inaccessible, but in this case asking AI is worse than asking no one

The best part is that they actually properly investigated and reported this 6 years ago and The Paper of Record is actually memory like a goldfish. bsky.app/profile/pwna...

Hard for me to imagine anything more NYT than ‘we don’t make racist genetic generalizations we just parrot vibes of unnamed people who do’

Yes, i meant the "you" to be directed at abled people only. But i really didn't make that clear. Sorry for the confusing way I wrote it!

And don't get me started on genetic selection during IVF. Language matters. Language matters because it is not separate from action. Because language creates culture. Every time you use ableist language, you make the world harder for us to live in

This may sound like hyperbole, but you have to consider that sterilizing and institutionalizing us still happens, that during the height of covid, hospitals were deprioritizing life saving treatment for us bc abled people just believe our lives are worse than theirs. They don't even question it
comment in response to post
Finally, when you use disability language as metaphor, you erase our lived experience, upholding longstanding public beliefs that disabled people shouldn't be seen or heard in public. That we should hide or be institutionalized, sterilized, euthanized.

paralyzed people can do things and blind people can perceive, so your metaphors make no sense! It is incredibly belittling to have someone use your lived experience as a metaphor - it drains the meaning from our language and pretends that abled people share our experiences. Which you don't
comment in response to post
Speaking of metaphors, please, please, I'm begging you, stop using disability language as metaphor. You aren't paralyzed or blind unless you're paralyzed or blind. You don't have blind spots. Maybe more importantly -
