Anyways. Here’s a cat, though. 🍏🐈

There is an opportunity here for Canada to be great. To go in the opposite direction of the US, and to choose to become champions of democracy, anti-colonialism, welcoming to refugees, and caring of each other. That’s not what will happen, of course.

To be clear, this is not just about preference. This is an escape route out of the US. Canada should be opening its doors to American refugees: trans, queer, Jewish, Latine, disabled, all the people the Trump regime is targeting. That would be the moral choice. Our gov't is not going to do that.

The project is already funded (which is how you know Simon's got Good Pedigree and dedicated fans) but if you like left-field sci-fi, back this! And while you're at it, pick up the rest of the "Grobusverse" books! A really lived-in world shot through with good humour and some killer design.

If you love comics, support the bleeding edge of the art!! A few bucks can help make an awesome prize for the minicomics award 😁

A friend suggested this point is “too complicated or technical for most voters.” No it’s not. It’s simple. It means we can’t trust Poilievre. With Trump. With Elon. With Russia. With China. With India. With the safety and independence of Canada. Because we have to assume he can’t pass it.

It's here! My debut graphic novel for adults (and my 5th graphic novel in general). I'm so excited for you all to meet Tessa and Olive!

Tonight is the 5 Second Day screening in Vancouver, so here is my film from last year: The Garden Knight! Look forward to seeing this year's film soon! #animation #5secondday

Well somehow, within the first seven hours, the kickstarter is 150% funded and we've blown through all of my paltry stretch goals- looks like ive got to go back to the drawing board

Worsening inequality means that, from millenials on, younger people live in utterly different realities from gentry scions in the same age cohort. So whenever a completely predictable (to anyone outside the elite) outpouring of rage happens, those in power act like it emerged from f'ing mars.

Something I’ve been asking myself is what accent I should be practicing in Chinese? Rosetta seems to be the equivalent of received pronunciation, very precise and maybe artificial. Like, this is the accent the way pinyin is spelled, but I don’t know if I’ve ever heard it IRL.

If you're worried about people remembering every embarrassing thing you did, think about it. Can you remember other people's embarrassing moments? No. That's because you're the only one who's ever done something embarrassing. What the fuck is wrong with you lmao

Rosetta Stone doesn’t have the thing that Duolinguo has where it gives you a lil test so you can skip ahead if you’re not new to a language. But fine, whatever. Let’s do some more basics, just for fun.

"Those who profess to favor freedom and yet deprecate agitation are men who want crops without plowing up the ground; they want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters." -Frederick Douglass, 1857

One thing I wish people understood about authoritarianism is life often looks more or less the same. Troops aren’t marching down the street every day; people go to restaurants, have their office jobs. But everyone knows that stepping out of line, even slightly, can derail your life with no recourse

Now w/alt-text. And to which I would add, after reading @andreapitzer.bsky.social’s masterful history of concentration camps “One Long Night”: CETCO is being run & proclaimed as a Death Camp by Trump & Bukele in notion & claims that most/all people never leave; they are meant to die in The Camp

I will say this - EVERYONE with power seems to be desperately hoping that unpopularity does the work that consequences need to do

How is it Monday already? How is that allowed?

What’s your unpopular Star Trek opinion? Oh my goodness I have so many. Let’s go with 2. -Voyager was blessed with the best cast pre-Discovery, but the second worst writing, so it’s hard to tell. -The vendetta the Romulans have against AI is the first interesting thing anyone’s ever done with them.

Dwarven cuisine should be terrifyingly well seasoned

Canadians should read this article.

Ki Cafe, the cutest cafe in the whole GVA, is open again!!!! I was so worried they were gone forever! dailyhive.com/vancouver/ki...

On the one hand, I am well aware that the biggest thing that’s changed is that white people are now being treated the way Black and brown people have been treated in the past by these very same border agents. On the other hand, no one should be going to the US if they can help it. It’s not safe.

I remember when things were better 🌈

It’s…it’s almost as if it’s on purpose…

Yup. And IMO, that desperation for validation goes hand-in-hand with a burning desire to Own without Creating or even commissioning. The hunger for unearned reward.

Another great meme from the past that hasn’t been on Bluesky yet. Here was mine.

“Bluesky is too much of an echo chamber” have you spent five minutes in a political discussion here

this is the no fucking shit of all no fucking shits and yet barely anyone anywhere is saying it.

I keep thinking about the Suez Crisis, which I’ve seen suggested as the moment when the US and USSR stole superpower status from Britain and France. In short, Egypt took over the Suez Canal from western companies, then Israel invaded Sinai with UK & French backing to take it back.

ughhhhhh

We got our Canadian election voter card in the mail this week, and will be taking advantage of the 4 days of advance voting that will make it easy. Remember, the polls look good for Carney, but DON’T be overconfident. Polls don’t win elections. Neither do pundits. TURNOUT wins elections. #VOTE

a frequently useful guideline in 2025 is “if a billionaire says something that might have a reasonable interpretation you agree with, they don’t mean the reasonable version you’re thinking of”
