What happened at Fort Bragg yesterday is very grave. Boos and catcalls from uniformed Army personnel responding to Trump's goading have almost no precedent in US history and would be unusual in most of Latin America. Listen to the troops boo the free press as Trump calls reporters “the fake news.”

Can’t emphasize enough what a disgrace this whole sad episode was

The takeover of the Army’s 250th birthday by social media influencers is a real testament to how far the army will go to avoid having any type of meaningful engagement about its origins, history, or purpose Instead, it’s one long cringe fest

Ads talking of July 4 celebrations ring hollow this year. No, thanks.

The people talking themselves into how this is probably fine (and there weren’t *that* many cheering soldiers and they were probably ordered to cheer and probably selected for who would cheer) sound like the guys on Reddit trying to convince themselves their GameStop stock was going to go back up.

decades of “thank you for your service” thrown away in service of kidnapping day workers from Home Depot shit-ass trade for the military, I gotta say

Watching from abroad, seeing the US Army hootin' and hollerin' along with Trump while he trashes the city of L.A. and promises to rename bases after Confederates looks like evidence of serious national decline.

I watch this and I feel nothing but shame. What an awful country.

Two months ago, Gavin Newsom urged Canadians to visit his state, saying they’re a world away from the politics of DC. Today, U.S. Marines — active-duty military — have entered Los Angeles.

Nuking civ-mil relations and bi[partisan consensus over a photo-op. good luck with those cuts, Army!

Chicago is a gorgeous, vibrant, and yes, VERY SAFE city where the overwhelming majority of people are friendly and kind. The "Chicago is a violent wasteland" narrative is racist bullshit. Do certain areas need better funding and fewer (ie no) cops? You betcha. But the people are awesome.

Come visit the United States! Get to see the Caribbean afterwards for free!

Wilson: "What's the smallest protest that could be of use to you?" Foch: "A single elderly grandmother. And we will see to it that she is killed."

Protesters Urged Not To Give Trump Administration Pretext For What It Already Doing

what people seem to believe is that there is a large number of criminal, layabout immigrants who can be easily found and deported. they support doing so snd are dismayed by the deportation of otherwise law abiding people. the problem is that the criminal group is imaginary!

Legit one of the most affirming arguments for trans rights I’ve read was on the Bulwark. It made the case that people are complicated and messy, life is hard and confusing, and that there’s no need for perfect understanding or for everyone to be a perfect victim at all times to care for each other.

Comics are good.

get your whiny ass back to x, the everything app

Thinking of adding this to my email signature.

You're allowed to take someone out of police custody if you say "yoink" while you do it

Four LAPD officers on horseback surround a man laying on the ground, trample him, and beat him with their polycarbonate "saber" batons.

I'm not really too hung up on whether the protests are peaceful or not. If armed masked men came into my neighborhood and started grabbing people off to where neither courts nor lawyers can find them, I might react pretty violently too. It's the kind of thing our Founders fought a revolution over.

They never should have let them unionize.

Juiceless little bitch

ICE is raiding a hotel on Madison in Pasadena.

Earlier this year I wrote about my one encounter with Yarvin, where it was clear he was not very smart, and absolutely, completely, full of himself. The idea that he's influencing *anyone* is bizarre. He's a clown.

Shame on America. Shame on Americans.

Looky here, America What you done done - Let things drift Until the riots come. -Langston Hughes, "Beaumont to Detroit", 1943

You know what I see? I see a community reacting to gangs of armed masked men who look like nativist vigilantes, not legitimate, accountable law enforcement.

The best place to get coverage of the protests in LA is from video from individuals on the scene. The totalitarian government is lying about them and the traditional media is largely unreliable — complicit or fatuously both-sidesey.

not sure there's a more embarrassing profession than ICE agent. Oh, you dress like a soldier to abduct sous chefs and throw flashbangs at protesters? Get a real job you loser

me, in $3000 diamond studded high heels, drinking wine aged in a barrel made out of turtle shells: do not fucking say "AN historical" to me again. ever.

If you want to know how broken the American spirit is, 10s of millions of people look at this and it makes them feel safe.

I still think this is one of the most gutting notes I’ve ever read.

Just a completely rotten culture from top to bottom. Using human shields to clear buildings, shooting unarmed civilians, no ROE, etc; the IDF is anything but a professional military

forced by circumstance to start posting on LinkedIn again: that website truly is the ultimate refutation of the idea that people won't say crazy shit on the Internet if you require them to post using their real name and professional affiliation
