I was treated to the full works, "looking down", head toss and "choking" - a bit like this in Herring, but more abrupt head movements with bills open: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mA33... But the one day in years when I did not have my phone/camera with me!

Two of the 4 ad Meds Seton Sands last Tue 18/2 were nearly full breeding, both yellow-AS.AT and yellow-AL.ZZ regularly since but they still have mainly white foreheads; full display from former to an unringed ad f, but no mating...

Probably unrelated but on coast at Aberlady 2nd highest reserve count of Curlew 688 on 4/11/24, per warden John

1st-win Common Gull white-JAM51 reached Seton 24/11 but just confirmed the code in recent sightings (new format, after the Jnnnn series), again on Seton Burn today so may have wintered locally...

Presumably unringed? Some resemblance to moulting yellow-AL.ZZ at Seton today, 4 ad (3 ad-sum) Meds ystdy as part of big influx of small gulls, 8k in roost...

Several days last March before this one at Port Seton Coop was captured and slushy type lid removed, it evaded the net in the pic, nowhere near catching on that occasion...

Chased our one again, the 8/4/24 Dunbar King Eider claim, not sure it is not an error...

Med yellow-AS.AT, ringed as 3+cy m Rehbach, Leipzip, 20/5/21 and summers in Germany, regular winterer here since arrival 11/10/21-14/2/22, (Holy Island 22/8/22), 21/11/22-17/2/23, 22/20/23-3/3/24, 15/10/24 to date, v distinctive bird, pics 12/12/24, 12/2/23...

It's got some black in tip of P10 but a clear black mark in P4 would be very unusual in Herring, even sub-ad, as per bill and dark marking in primary coverts...

Strictly, you need the colon, but in practice overlaps with same code without colon are unlikely so it is sometime omitted in records; e.g. ~50 yellow-T or Y code Herring/LBB, and ~30 yellow-Xnnn and yellow-nnnM code GBB here, example of latter below, all have colons in standard place...

Single ad graellsii LBB on #WinGS this year and last, presumed same returning bird now recorded every winter since 05/06, feeds offshore with large gulls and hangs out along rocky shore east of harbour, often in roost offshore; possibly the only regular winter LBB here east of Musselburgh? #gulls

Just for reference, this per facebook group "Finches, irruptions etc" 3/1 "A large-scale outbreak of Willow Ptarmigan is currently underway in Quebec. Impressive numbers of several 100 individuals have been photographed in the usual areas, while 100s are currently visible south of the boreal forest"

Missed this last year, but here's the BirdTrack Med Gull map showing same concentration in your area and scatter elsewhere; likely heavily under-recorded inland, pk inland count 8 (6 ad, 1 1st-win) at New Winton, Tranent (NT47F) 22/9/21; lower numbers at Seton this last two summers, pks 7...

Still not aware of any reports on this side, the only leucistic in Online SBR are Fife/Angus 2002-4 incl "part leucistic with white head and body" off Ruddons Pt 27/4/03; also a full albino in the Wash in 2011: andrewchick.blogspot.com/2011/04/reco...

Thanks to Stan da Prato for suggesting knotweed/knotgrass Polygonum aviculare or the related redshank Persicaria maculosa both in the dock/sorrel family, both in BWP list of Twite food sources, not unexpectedly...

Previous recoveries per @btobirds.bsky.social Ringing Report for Lothian (search "Twite"), though I expect also some colour rings not (yet) there: app.bto.org/ring/countyr...

Snap*. Like buses, only two Twite recoveries ever in Lothian and then two come along together, albeit a relocation! And yes, an unusually big serif on the "1", but 7 should always have a flat top; I struggled most with the T, dent on side made look like a 3 from the left * bsky.app/profile/loth...

Think top line is ..SEUM../middle ..N SW.../bottom ..19..; it's a BTO A ring in full should be NH MUSEUM/LONDON SW7/code; assuming same bird (only one seen with left metal) James photos confirm start/end code as AB..3 - see my post from ystdy...

No, I think we can be confident none in the country at present! Could she have been deceived by size, thrushes hopping around?

1st-win BHG red-2NK6 was ringed at Blackness Castle on 14/10/24, c/o Iain Livingstone, Clyde Ringing Group, so it has not moved far - it was also at Linlithgow Loch on 24/10/24, presumably its regular feeding haunts...

Agreed on suggested ID, another hybrid, but yellow-er legs than most; have added images to collection and data to spreadsheet...

Final PS, this one at Seton 15 yrs ago was (in retrospect!) not too bad on head shape but probably not same bird as current, having a lighter mantle and a complete P5 band, but narrow: https://sedgewarbler.blogspot.com/2009/09/yellow-legged-gull.html
