Unsolicited writing advice, no. #103876: Never worry about whether what you write "matters." It matters because you do. And one day, someone else may read it and understand that they matter, too. This is how we build a world, one connection at a time.

If your writing didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be going after our books and our stories and desperately trying to rewrite them and/or destroy them. Language is power.

I’m Danish, married to an American. I live in Europe & I’m watching in horror as an ally turns into a foe. As a megalomaniac destroys a nation, shatters geopolitical alliances. As racism, bigotry, ableism, misogyny, & greed fuel a fascist coup & oligarchs pave the way for eugenics. Not again.

I really don’t like this timeline. Dystopian literature wasn’t meant to be an instruction manual. I will continue to write without using generative AI, and I will continue to teach critical thinking, history, and composition skills to my kids and my students.

people say “just stop doomscrolling” like we’re not literally live-streaming the series finale of american democracy

#LuciasWritingRehab Day 31 Success! I have officially kept up my writing rehab for one whole month. I’ve had slip-ups, days without writing, but I kept coming back. I got back on the saddle every time I fell off. I adapted. I’ve written over 23K words this month, including 6K in a novella #amwriting

Sensory issues have become more intense, and anxiety more sensory-based. Autistic burnout wiped out my ability to power through and ignore my sensory issues. I am no longer able to force myself to stay in overwhelming environments. I shut down sooner and take longer to recover.

If you went to college 1. what was your career goal when you started? 2. your initial major? 3. if you changed majors, what did you change to? 4. what do you do now, professionally? 1. International school teacher 2. Education 3. English & French literature 4. Primary school occupational therapist

With alt-text. The Parable of the Talents is a novel by Octavia Butler. It was published in 1998, a sequel to The Parable of the Sower (1993.) Both were award winning books.

if you want artists to make weirder art, you have to create stable living conditions that allow them to. homogeneity isn't a matter of artists lacking culture-- there are many soulful artists out there-- it's a matter of unregulated corporate dominance combined with artists who cant afford to create

Universal basic income would allow artists (and scientists and inventors and everyone else) to pursue their passions without economic or commercial pressure.

I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world. This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧵

#LuciasWritingRehab Day 14 Progress! I’ve kept all my 20-minute sessions & have written over 10K words in 2 weeks. I started with stream of consciousness, then fairytale retellings, then book blurbs, and finally pantsing a WIP! I’m excited about my vampire novella. It’s dorky & dark 🧛‍♀️ #amwriting

This is a fascinating article, and a reminder that TB is caused by impoverishment as much as it's caused by bacteria.

#LuciasWritingRehab Day 3 I wrote for 20 minutes and ended up with 1053 words! This has never happened before. Being gentle with myself and leaning into joy helped. These are writing exercises that won’t be part of a book, but they’re helping me get ready to write another book. #amwriting #ADHD

#LuciasWritingRehab Day 3 Goal: 20 minutes in 5-minute sprints, stream of consciousness I’m tired today, so I will be gentle with myself and consider it a success that I’ve sat down to write 3 days in a row. I will focus on joy and playfulness. I can do this! #amwriting

Interesting take. Comment if you care to. shewrites.com/genre-trends...

#LuciasWritingRehab Day 2 Total word count for 20 minutes (4 five-minute sprints): 901 words! 😃 I’ve been barely writing 100-200 words an hour, and I haven’t been able to focus. This is unprecedented for me 🥹 #WritingCommunity #spoonie #amwriting #RomanceWriter

#LuciasWritingRehab Day 2 goal: write 100 words or for 20 minutes, whichever I can manage. Stream of consciousness brain dump, just let the words flow Background music 5-minute sprints #amwriting

As we enter a new year - a reminder. “You are enough. You have nothing to prove to anybody.” (Maya Angelou)

Books I loved in 2024, some published in 2024, others not. #BookSky #Romancelandia
