AOC in Bakersfield, California: "By first going after activists such as these so that they can jail them for their speech, and then they will jail the rest of us for speaking up for immigrants, for speaking up for women's rights, for speaking up against this administration in any way shape or form"

Missouri House Republicans gave initial approval yesterday to a proposed constitutional amendment that essentially repeals the abortion rights measure that voters just passed in November. It would make abortion illegal again, with limited exceptions for rape, incest and medical emergencies.

Prosecutors say the operation was aimed at gathering information to foil lawsuits against the fossil fuel industry over damage communities have faced from climate change.

When I say you don’t have to worry about microplastics in your brain I mean that there is much stronger evidence that you should be worrying about other things that you don’t ever think about, like the draining of peatlands for agriculture, and things that you think about all the time, like fascism.

Things are getting so stupid so quickly I’m having trouble catching up

One of the most powerful forces in politics is the urge to destroy that from which you are excluded. This is why, in the highly unequal US, support for Trump holds up even as he trashes everything that makes a good society. Equality is key to preventing fascism. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Sometimes it helps to see things from a different perspective. And sometimes you just need a nap. #caturday #catsofbluesky

So, the gov't's request for an extension of time in the Kilmar Abrego Garcia case got bounced bc it was filed by someone not admitted. (This is the one where they sidelined the attorney who appeared at the prior hearing.) The 9:30am declaration remains overdue.

Echoing points made by others today, in a country where getting an abortion or gender affirming care or protesting a genocide can be felonies, I am going to need everyone to stop talking about "the rule of law" and "innocent people" and "criminal records."

Sorry, what?

3 days ago RFK Jr. told the CDC to stop recommending water fluoridation, claiming it was a neurotoxin (this is a lie). Turns out he also just eliminated the CDC’s entire Lead Program, and now lead poisoned children in Milwaukee are just on their own. Lead IS a neurotoxin and harms brain development

Called my congressman who voted for the SAVE act. Me: What documents will I need to vote if this passes? Staffer: a DL and birth certificate. Me: The documents don’t match Staffer: Then a marriage certificate. Me: Will my husband need the marriage certificate too? Staffer: No Me: See the problem?

As I expected, the government ignored the 9:30 a.m. deadline set by the federal court in Maryland. The court moved the deadline to 11:30 a.m. As I expected, the government ignored the 11:30 deadline. A 1:00 p.m. court hearing was scheduled. As I expected, the government demanded it be canceled.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court says the government must facilitate the RETURN of Abrego Garcia from El Salvador to the United States. s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

With the help of four Democrats, House Republicans just voted to pass H.R. 22 — one of the biggest threats to voting rights that we’ve seen in a generation. If you’re represented by Reps. Case (HI-01), Cuellar (TX-28), Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03), or Golden (ME-02), they need to hear from you today.

Bring back jobs by investing in national high speed rail.

The House just passed its budget resolution, so reconciliation is now officially underway. This is their bill to destroy Medicaid and SNAP while cutting taxes disproportionately for the rich. THIS IS VERY REAL and can be enacted even if all Ds vote no. Thread on what's to come and WHERE TO FIGHT.

Due process just means making you follow the rules and letting judges determine if you did. How is that bad? It’s literally part of why we rebelled against Great Britain.

ELECTION RESULT: A team of city council members in Rolla, Missouri, have been pushing anti-LGTB policies, including a ban on drag shows and book censorship. Voters just ousted all three of these city councilors who were running for reelection, backing candidates backed by a local LGBT group.

It’s a month since the administration detained and disappeared a green card holder, a lawful permanent resident. We cannot allow this to be normalized or forgotten.

One of the most clarifying things I've seen in the past few weeks is "de-escalate all conflict that is not with the enemy."

About 250M years ago, 90% of species on Earth died during the Permian extinction. All of that loss created a lot of vacant niches to fill.
Not long after, the first mammals, our ancestors, appeared.
Life on this pale blue dot will be resilient - whether we’re part of it or not. #science #history

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

roberts et al have divined the Actual Intent of the constitution, which is to allow the government to exercise nearly unaccountable power to strip people of their rights. it is why we fought the revolution!

Sotomayor is right. According to this Supreme Court, the US can now kidnap, detain, and fly legal immigrants and citizens to a foreign country's prison, even if it's a whoopsie. America, people. Freedom and stuff.

Seems not great that reporters are asking the president if he’s tanking the market on purpose because he posted that he’s tanking the market on purpose

We the people are taking action to stop a hostile government takeover. On April 5, 5.2 million people across the country stood up to say HANDS OFF our democracy! Save the date for our next national day of action on April 19th. #50501movement #PeoplesMovement #FiftyFiftyOne #April5 #HandsOff

Kansas City residents joined the national #HandsOff day of protest against Trump and Musk, with an enormous rally at the Plaza. Kansas Citians had a long list of grievances against the Trump administration: tariffs, threats to the Postal Service, attacks on diversity initiatives and more.

There is finally a bit of media attention in KC! #handsoff www.kmbc.com/article/hand...

“Missouri's 15 protests took place at the State Capitol, county courthouses, churches, schools and along busy roadways.” The “red” states are filled with a diversity of folks from across the political spectrum, same as the “blue” states. Even in the rural counties. We are all in this together.

#HandsOff #Missouri #JeffersonCity 100’s marched and rallied in the rain at the MO Capitol!! Fighting to save our Democracy! #GetUpStandUpforYourRights #Resist #WeAreTheOnesWereWaitingFor

Topeka Kansas turned out!

“And here's something I know and you know and they don't know: when they destabilized the most stable democracy in history, they opened up the possibilities. They think they have all the power, because they don't understand power. They don't understand that we have power, but we do.”

STEPHANOPOULOS: The president retweeted a post that said the market drop was part of a deliberate strategy. Is that the president's strategy? HASSETT: Heh ha. The bottom line is the president has been talking about tariffs for 40 years. He's allowed to have an opinion. S: So that is his strategy.

I had the honor of speaking at this event, but rallies were held all over the country. Some estimates say more than 3.5 million people protested today. People ask all the time, "where are the protests?" The answer: everywhere but your living room, so get off your ass and join the resistance.

#handsoff Topeka KS

She shouldn’t have to be out in the Kansas City cold, worried about her financial future. #HandsOff #KansasCity

KCMO showed up AGAIN today (including folks from across the metro) www.kansascity.com/news/local/a...

To the world: We are fighting back. Our movement has been silenced by the media here—but we are not backing down. This is what our streets looked like across multiple cities. Tomorrow, there will be more of us! Raise a glass to freedom. —With love, Your American allies.

So many things none of us will perceive will come out of today's gatherings. That's the point. People find each other, they take some strength and remember they aren't actually isolated and alone. This is fortification for what's to come.
