“. . . have been possible because men moved too late. It is often essential to resist a tyranny before it exists. It is no answer to say, with a distant optimism, that the scheme is only in the air. A blow from a hatchet can only be parried while it is in the air.” 2/2

Too right! It's like grief: a perfectly natural, human reaction to a terrible loss that requires processing. Not something that needs to be medicated away.

These are insane times. I assume you are in the US? If so, I really feel for you. Even here in Norway we feel the ripple effects.
What I am attempting to do here is work on local causes that matter to me (green issues, trying to stop the poverty gap widening, *talking* to people)

It is very disheartening and I'm sorry if I have upset you. I was just trying to think of a reason why people would do something so stupid. I am not a eugenicist either (I hope that goes without saying.) I suspect the ultra-rich think their money will save them from everything.

I was thinking of giving up on local politics after one term on this committee, but after last night's meeting, I feel almost honour bound to try & keep going for longer.

Just failed to convince fellow members of the town planning committee that it was not a good idea to fill up two small valleys in local woodland with 7 metres of rubble and build flats & houses on top that will loom over all existing houses and flats.
