This is the ideological basis of elections but this is not how they pan out in reality Multiple times in history, across multiple countries parties have abandoned their policies to win the election and win power Because the debate space is the media which is controlled by a few individuals

This should definitely be the end goal How are you going to build such actions? Where are you going to find the people willing to do such organising? How do ensure everyone understands the political reasoning behind taking the action? How do you ensure no one can jeopardises the action?

How should people's time be better spent?

Taking to the streets is a significant action as it shows peoples willingness to be public with their politics It also means people will be more likely to take to the street next time and if the socialist groups know what they're doing, they would have used the protest as a networking opportunity

The UK did have a counter protest at the trooping of the colour. It was small but the fact it was there is significant. www.townandcountrymag.com/society/trad...

Post US pilled take ever Totally ignorant to the harms of the two party system, completely beholden to the toxic ideas of lesser evilism and shows a lack of political understanding of how politics doesn't just happen at elections

All energy sources have their issues The only way to tackle the climate crisis from an energy point view is to reduce demand

This is the main issue with electoral politics You are more concerned with winning the election instead of winning the argument and are willing to make concessions on policies just to win power This also encourages parties to do the bidding of wealthy donors in order to secure campaign resources

Growth and opportunities happen with any government investment The real question, is nuclear the right industry to create growth and opportunities when it is known to be slow and over priced?

I highly doubt that The american flag is plastered everywhere Talking to them in person will have the biggest impact

Pro-US nationalism is what lead to these ICE raids Pro American nationalism created Trump These ICE raids are deeper than just Trump being bad The peddling of love and devotion for the flag by the state enables the racism it enacts on people
comment in response to post
I never said anything about more or less my point was how the use of a flag at a protest has varying effects and that therefore the impact of a US flag will be minimal in terms of numbers if people Fundamentally, taking a US flag to an anti government protest is politically contradictory
comment in response to post
I fail to see how a flag is going to make such a huge difference
comment in response to post
Hard disagree on what those flags represent This is the flip side of the issue Different people view the same flag differently. There will be people who will not want to go to a protest because of an abundance of US flags More often than not those people are on the right side of history
comment in response to post
I'm not trying to convince you. I'm trying to convince everyone else looking at this conversation The US flag became a flag of oppression years ago. It is far too late to try to reclaim it There is no need to reclaim it belonging comes from how we act not what flag we stand under
comment in response to post
Most movements against authoritarian regimes flew their own flag That's how the US flag came into being in the first place Flying the flag of California is a much better flag to fly than the US flag
comment in response to post
You convince people to join by talking to them, in real life Everyone colleagues, friends, family should be asked to join and should ask others to join That's how you build a real movement that exists in the real world Even if you bring a US flag the media will find a way to give it bad optics

I don't see how the presence of a US flag is going to massively change someone's opinion of a protest The flag is a symbol of the oppressive American state It's a symbol with a history of violence against oppressed people's The very idea of nationhood is being used to justify ICE violence
comment in response to post
The idea that America is your community is a lie spoonfed you by the state to make you more loyal to the idea of nationhood To make you more obedient when your nation required bodies of armed men to enact violence against people, domestic or foreign
comment in response to post
Those who won't support people because "there are no US flags" were never going to support you in the first place The choice of flag won't affect the optics of the videos of police brutality You only need good optics if your activism is chronically online

Bad Advice These protests are about community, not country communities of people with multiple backgrounds and nationalities are on the streets The US flag is the symbol of the very institutions using ICE against people You fight fascists by being there not with "optics"

It's not just democrats All social democrats shift right when they get elected as they begin to rub shoulders with the wealthy As a long standing campaigner once told me "You only need to give them a junior position and a medal for them to be jumping up and down at your command"

The green won't do it They have the option that if you want to work with the greens then you should join the greens They don't understand the advantages of running as an independent and view that lack of resources and capacity an independent has a major hold back
